Has anyone ever heard of a strain of foxes called mammoth reds? Heard this from an old man. He claimed that here in western Kentucky back in the fox days that they were a few reds that were twice as big as a normal red. First I'd ever heard of them. Just wondering if anyone else had.

If they were they were escaped or turned loose ranch foxes.

Jerry used to raise them and they're twice the size of wild reds

IF IDIOTS GREW ON TREES THIS PLACE WOULD BE AN ORCHARD !

Probably escaped ranch foxes. I caught one a few years ago. I thought I caught the biggest red fox ever, then I caught a silver fox the next day in the same set... they were both ranch foxes.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I have read that some fur farm foxes can weigh over 40 pounds now. At the Mt. Hope Exotic Sale, I have seen red fox derivatives that probably weighed a little over 30 pounds, well over twice the size of any red fox I've caught. There was an old, stinky red fox on my farm, who would eat at my egg dump, who would get within 6' or 8' of me, that probably weighed in the mid twenty pound range. He is the largest wild fox I've seen. The other red fox on my farm are normal sized.

We have some red wolves in Eastern NC. Don’t much look like foxes to me. Nearly all grey foxes there as well.

I raised silver and cross fox. Every now and then you would get a red pup. They out weighed a regular red by 8-10 more pounds.

Some I just let run.

No, it's real. Google : The largest red fox on record in Great Britain was a 17.2 kg (38 lb), 1.4-metre (4 ft 7 in) long male, killed in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in early 2012. See pics also.
