No, money doesn't really mean much once you have it like another tool for you to do what you need. This is why a lot of the mega rich have crazy machines, they are all looking for that next "step" of life, but it never comes because there is only so much money can do for you. Just my .02 cents.

I see it all the time near cities. Old farmer keeps the land for generations. Busts his butt to keep it. He dies and kids cash in for development money. Sometimes there is one kid that wants to farm but can't pay off their siblings. I see it is becoming more common to place land in a trust or something to keep the land in the family. Greed is a terrible thing. Kids these days are quick to dump something they haven't worked for.

In a new york minute I would. You only get one go-round on this earth, and whoever died and left you the land couldn't care less what you do with the property. If they were a decent person at all, they'd want you to do whatever benefits you best with the land.

No. I have way to much of a connection to the land and what it’s has done for my family. The good times and the bad years. Something I could never part with.

yes I did it , was not easy but I bought my grandparents farmhouse when I was 19, when I got sick, I was 53 and new my wife could never take care of that big old place even thought I completely remolded it , so I build a small house on land that I had bought years ago, that was 7 years ago and I'm still here . and I would not change a thing, I did try to sell it to a family member but no one wanted it

Yup! If you don't have anyone worthy of leaving it to, and know they'd sell it anyway, sell it and enjoy the good fortune bestowed upon you. Have fun! :-)

Taken out of my hands by my own advise. Told dad years ago to put it all in trust and that's probably the only thing he ever agreed with me on.

When my grandma died I inherited some land, my aunt lives in new Mexico and would never come back so I called her I was told she was in need of money so I bought her part. Now the neighbors that connect on each side have tried to get me to sale... Not that they have offered life changing money but I don't even let them finish a sentence before I tell them it's not for sale.. figured I'll pass it on to my kids, what they do with it will be their business..but I would hope they would pass it along. I'm pretty sure no amount of money would buy it, I keep it more for sentimental rather than to make money off they place. I don't farm it, don't hunt I do trap it. But it's where I grew up lots of memories running around those woods, dirt biking the paths.

If the grandson keeps hunting, it is his. He is very connected to it and loves the history of my our father told my brother and I to buy dirt. Like the current country song.

I've seen a lot sell the land before the parents are room-temp. I still have mine in an LLC with my siblings.

That is so true. Look at all the rich musicians that die lonely and miserable.

Remeber don't cash in before said inheritance is left to you. I've seen several times the childern just automatically expected the land would be left to them. The land can be left to whomever the relative deemed deserved it. It sort of agrevates me to see people contest a will when they didnt get left what they thought they were intitled to. IF, IF, my parents leave me something I will appreciate it and decide later on what to do with it. An inheritance can be left to a charity??

The thread asks selling for a better life, not just for the money. For a better life, I would, but what is a better life to you?
