I haven't been on Tman for several days, but last night my wife showed me something on Facebook she had about some dog sleds being attacked by a bull moose.
Has that been posted on here? Or, does somebody have some info on it?

They finally did kill the moose, didn't they?
Those poor dogs couldn't get away since they were harnessed.

I once heard that the moose were more dangerous than the bears.

Eventually a friend with a rifle killed the moose.

Happened last week I think.

Moose can get very belligerent especially in the winter when they want to use packed trails and roads to avoid deep snow.

I remember in the 70's and 80's, the most common wildlife/human conflict around Yellowstone was with cow moose. Walking through 7 foot tall willows to get to the stream with a fly rod can get exciting sometimes.

We get moose all the time in my neighborhood. I was going through chemo treatment and was riding my bike for exercise. I was cruising along and saw movement to my right. There was a young 3 yo moose with its hackles up and running for me. The bike trail is next to the Parks Highway and a tractor trailer went by and the moose stopped and I was able to escape whatever caused the charge!

I had a friend on his motorcycle down by Healy cruising along. Same thing a moose was trying to run him down. So yah they can surprise you when you least expect it!

That is why a carried my Glock 10mm all the years in the Alaskan bush. 17 rounds would be a good start

Last spring, I was driving down the road in my truck and my buddy "said look at the moose", it was running up the ditch at the truck full speed, I stepped on the gas a bit so she wouldn't catch us. I looked back and their was a red bloody calf just born laying on the tundra. They get real mean when they have a new calf, always back away when you come to a cow with a calf.

I would carry my 10mm over any pistol I own and there isn’t many calibers I don’t own. There are more powerful calibers out there but pound for pound I would not be without my Glock.

Moose are around, this is my front yard and just have to know when to back off. The one that chased me on my bike I found out later it was being fed in another neighborhood.

Years ago I was mushing an 8-dog team on my home trail when we came around a corner and surprised a cow and calf moose. I got the team stopped while cow faced us, blocking the trail and covering her calf's retreat. Well the calf floundered, so she charged us from about 50 feet. She employed a best defense is a good offense tactic. She started with my lead dogs and whack-a-moled her way down the line, each successive pair of dogs pounded into the snow and motionless. I got off the sled and started to tip it over on top of me as a shield when she stopped at my brush bow. Her ears were down, her hackles up, and she stared me down, uttering a demonic growl. I never knew moose could growl like that! After what seemed like forever, she whirled and ran after her retreating calf. My dead dog team leapt to their feet and chased, but not far as they soon tangled in brush. I got them untangled and back on the trail, and checked them over carefully. One leader, Mikey, had a palpable dent in his skull and bloody gums, but no other injuries noted. The moose tracks had a little blood, so she got bit at least once. I ran them home slowly, and gave them several days off. No lasting effects, other than Mikey's dent. He had it till his dying day. Funny thing is, I had a model 94 30-30 in my sled but couldn't get it without letting go of my sled. I guess Mikey was a great leader because he was so hard-headed!

I've seen a lot of alaska trappers chest holstering what appears to .50 cal revolvers. Is that the caliber of choice?

I would say NO.

You might see a few fishermen with 50's but more usual is a 44 magnum. I think that is almost an exclusively summertime thing.
All I ever carry in the winter is a 22LR handgun

But, IMO the biggest danger here is the weather. Especially ice & water

The first day I was in Galena, they had three in body bags on the hanger floor. Two died in a boating accident on the Yukon, and the third went down in a small plane. I totally agree that the weather and water takes more than anything. A big heavy pistol doesn't do much for that.
