In our last week ice/snow storm inevitable power loss, the genney ran for between 2 and 3 days straight. Runs 8 of the circuits from main breaker box. Second day I cut 2 nonessential circuits to take it easy on the old girl. Just checked LP tank, quick mental calculation says 80 bucks for three days. That's home furnace, gas range, water heater. Not great but not bad for emergencies, better than a nasty hotel in the city. Only house lit up for as far as I could see. Herd a lot of gasoline genneys but no lights.
Case.

Do you have that thing wired into your house permanent like or do you just hook it up as needed?

Run it off the same propane tank for the house? That would be an ideal setup. But the equipment and hookup costs would be pretty high.

I bought a gas generator and made a cable to route it into house through a 220 outet. That was ten years ago. But so far I've only needed it for about 1 hour in the past ten years.

Built with house auto switch, runs from main LP tank. Where I live they're ( some kind of genny) almost an absolute necessity. We can be without power, and have, for up to 3 weeks. Once in 20 years but it did happen once. 2-3 days fairly common.

Why is your power so unreliable? Just wondering.

I kind of expected that when I moved out of the city. But it hasn't come to be. I guess that means I didn't move far enough away!
crazy

Anyways... nice setup you have there.

I'm up on the flat ground where the wind turbines are. When ice gets on the transmission lines it can take down miles of poles, then the substations take a big hit. An REMC. Mutual aid by Governer only.

Yes, Same here, Never know, could be an hour or could be 4 days. Have a 20 K Generac generator, hooked to lp tanks, I think the longest out has been six days & that cost about 200 bucks for the time out.
