Any ideas? Came off friends place by a lake in Utah. We found lots of points in area many years back but I have never seen anything like this. [Linked Image]

Many bannerstones had holes bored thru them for attachment to the throwing stick, but others were tied on, which is what I believe your's to be.

it is actually a counter weight on the thrower stick that is moved along the frame depending on how the target is to be hit and the weight of the projectile spear
nice find

The stone in the picture looks a bit small to be a spear thrower weight to me. Abrasion stone is a good guess too I would say. Whatever its use that was done by a human or humans.

It looks like a net or fishing weight to me. There are marks where the line abraded into the soft stone. As the line wore through the stone, they just tightened it up and kept fishing. Plus it was found by a lake.
