I am a huge Joe Meek fan. Reading Stanley Vestal's biography on Joe's life is pretty much what got me into trapping at age 15. Joe's older brother Stephen who ended up settling in California. AND here, OL' Joe himself: the first Marshall in the Oregon territory.

Has anyone done any reading up on meek. It’s hard to believe but it could be possible I put traps in some of the same areas he trapped Crazy. Unless you're trapping in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah you're probably not trapping the same places Joe did. By the time he came west to Oregon he had hung up is traps best I understand it.

Thanks for that Goonie. I have actually taken a pilgrimage to Joes' final resting place at Scott Church in North Plains. His wife Virginia was also buried there.

Among one of my favorite Joe quotes was this gem from when he was back in Washington DC trying to get federal help after the Whitmann Massacre. At a social reception one of the ladies asked the handsome Joe if he was married, to which he replied he indeed was. "Well, isn't your wife just terrified of the Indians"? "Uh, no ma'am I reckon she's not...as she is an Indian herself".

A friend of mine has one of his hand forged traps he lives in Washington County. That's really cool, what verification do they have that it belonged to Joe Meek?

Jim Bridger's wife and daughter were killed in the Whitman massacre. I didn't remember that Joe Meek's daughter was also killed at that time are you sure that's correct? Could be, but my memory is not what it once was! Joe's daughter was for sure there at the Whitman school. I am not sure if she was killed or captured and ransomed.
