Don't think "BRAVE " is the right word "STUPID" fits better.

Had a buddy who owned one made by MOA Corp., which was manufactured 15 minutes from where I worked in my previous life. One day when I was teaching at the Sheriff's Office range, we blasted a whole box of .375 H & H Mags through it. As loud as it was, the recoil wasn't too bad.

the 50 cal SLAP rounds Sabot light armor piercing rounds were well not exactly factory ammo either and didn't have a confirmed origin very likely someone's home load because they are so obscure using pulled down components they figured the way it ruptured it went in excess of 100Kpsi to blow that gun up the way it did

375 H&H you can buy factory loads that are safe to shoot and should have normal pressure levels

Danny,
It's not just about ft lbs. Years ago a friend of mine had a Freedom Arms in .454. I shot all the loads available through it. So did he. When done he told me that it was the ONLY caliber, rifle or pistol that he shot completely through the old style ash bowling pins.

There was an article probably 30 years ago in one of the gun magazines comparing penetration in wet newspapers. .375 H&H was used as the control round for comparison. They used the standard 275gr soft point load.

I believe it penetrated approximately 27 inches.

Hard cast .44 mag 300gr at a much slower velocity penetrated 44 inches.

I've seen this myself shooting feral hogs in Texas with my .44 mag using 300gr Hornady XTP's. Almost complete penetration from front end to back end.

This railroad plate was shot with a 375 R.U.M. at 100 yards. The R.U.M. cartridge is about 200 FPS faster than the H and H cartridge. I would hate to get shot with any of them. I am sure you are aware that penetration is effected by bullet selection as well as weight and velocity. They sell solid bronze bullets for that big stuff. The RR plate was shot with a partition bullet if I remember correctly.

My .300 RUM is very impressive. The .375 must be amazing. Wicked loud?

The first shot counts the most, but well aimed fast subsequent shots should be doable.
My wife’s Alaska gun is a Super Redhawk .44 magnum shooting Buffalo Bore penetrators.

Yup.A chunk of metal off the rifle went through his neck and cut a main artery..Would have blead out if his father wasn't there doing the filming.

Danny,
Not disagreeing that speed and GOOD bullets do wonders on steel plates. I have previously mentioned on here that I spent 30 years at the original Remington, much of it in R&D and the test lab. I have first hand knowledge on many things you folks will never even know about. Bullets have made major advancements in the last 20 years. Barnes was the only solid, non-lead bullet way back when.

And when I can run a bullet doing approx 1300fps the full length of a 180lb hog that shows the other end of the spectrum for bullet performance.

Willy Firewood,
Those Buffalo bore bullets are good stuff.

My brother in law has a 454 Casull. Man, that thing is a beast. I got to shoot it ONCE, and I stress once. Way more gun than I want to play with.
