In 1994 Bill Clinton coerced Ukraine to sign the agreement giving up it's nuclear weapons. We agreed to protect Ukraine. If they still had them do you think Putin would have invaded. It makes me think about the Second Amendment and how you should never give up your weapons for a promise.

There was never a mutual aid clause to that agreement. What you're referring to is nothing but the typical agreement language of respect for international borders.

From what I understand, the weapons that Ukraine had were all formerly owned by Russia.

Very interesting on how this is shaping up and being able to watch it in real time. I can't help but think of the Magog Invasion described in Ezekial 38. Seems that the pieces are certainly falling into place.

The weapons never belonged to Ukraine. They were part of the soviet arsenal maned by the soviet army. With the fall of the soviet union ownership and control fell to the successor state Russian Federation not the newly independent Ukraine.
The agreement was made as a means of getting the Russian weapons and army out of Ukraine.

BTW the same agreement was made for Kazakhstan.

Long one but this guy explains a good bit of detail of how what we think of as Ukraine isn't actually histically and ethnically Ukraine. He also goes into the break up of Yugoslavia as what we are seeing in Ukraine has a similar fundamental cause.
