With Russia starting a war in Ukraine I don’t think we will ever see any Wolf 7.62 x 39 ammo again in the USA. I have a. Ruger bolt in this caliber and saved back a lot of ammo for it but it looks this gun will now only be used in case we have a war on USA soil. Could put a real stop in AK-47 sales in this country. I think will see another huge jump in Wolf and any Russian made ammo. MD

Wolf moved their operations to Taiwan awhile ago, they are still filling orders at the Russian factory, but when the US announced sanctions and the ban on sporting ammunition thats when all the arrangements were made. There is already other countries replacing the void of Russian ammo, all very good quality, highly recommend just about all 7.62x39 on the market today.

Son bought an SKS this winter. Wanted hunting ammo. He bought a set of LEE dies, 100 pieces of new starline brass, and these bullets.
The bore of his rifle is .311 So checked these "303" bullets before loading any.
They shoot fine. He has powder info and OCL written down, and I dont remember for sure, but I THINK we loaded them with H335. With the stock military open sight its shooting 3-4 inch groups at 100 yards. So minute of deer. Could likely be improved with a little finessing which we have not done. He has not shot any deer or anything else with it but i am confident it will work just fine.
So if you reload maybe this will help

Why not just shoot a regular .308 bullet out of it? I shoot a 125 grain out of my .308 rifle for deer and antelope. I would think getting re-loadable brass would be the larger issue than a 30 cal bullet....

palmetto state armory just built a new facility to manufacture steel case ammo here in the states. Pretty sure the russian military switched to the 5.45 X 39 caliber many many moons ago. the ak -74 shoots that caliber and has been around since the 70's. close in ballistic performance to our 5.56.

7.62x39 is not a true .308 diameter. They run a few thou over. You can shoot .308 bullets in them but you don't have as good of a seal or engagement of rifling.

Ok, figures. Just like the Germans and their "8 mm" Mauser (called 7.92 mm), isn't there a 7.57 mm Swiss or maybe that German too. Fricking goofy Europeans.

Yeah definitely recommend to use .310 or 3.11 bullets for all 7.62x39. If .308 is all you have sure, but with .310 or .311 you can get 1MOA easily. An AK slightly above, recommend the Barnes if you can find them, what Danny posted is not bad, Hornady, Nosler. PPU Brass is the best out there, far above anything. Winchester 7.62x39 can be very erratic, they had some batches not good, never recalled.

Yeah it's goofy. And to make it just as confusing on the imperial side... you have .30 cal chamberings that are named by either bore diameter or projectile diameter... 30-30 (or 30 WCF if you prefer) 30-06, .308 Win., .300 Win Mag. And then you have the .307 Win.
And my personal favorite... .223 Remington which actually uses a .224 projectile.
Mainly why I don't send my wife to buy ammo or reloading components. If I do, she gets an SKU# or a picture of the box.

there is a Wolf plant in Ukrane
the other thing PSA and Kalashnikov USA have both announced they are tooling up to make steel case 7.61x39
so you may see no more Russian ammo here that was due to happen with the new import restrictions in 2023 any way.
but you will now have US made 7.62x39 options soon
new US made or made on US receiver kit guns are already not cheap , you can buy an AR for a couple hundred less than an AK currently a good AK is going for around 1K you can get a Good AR for 800 and a budget AR for 550
