My nephew lost around 50 lbs. He didn’t totally quit carbs he just counts them closely and keeps them to an absolute minimum. His wife on the other hand lost 35, then went off the diet and in record time it seems gained back the 35 and then some.

My wife and I did Atkins several years ago. Very effective. One unwanted side effect was that our Lab gained 15 lbs. from all the bread, fries, etc. that we took off our plates and brought home for her.
cereal grains fatten up cattle and pigs the fastest , why are we surprised when it does it to us
I gave up all bread , cereal grains , potatoes , sugar and fruit juice in September and eat fruit vegetable nuts dairy and meat I have had a little flower dredge on a pork chop or a little sore lunch on fish but that is not much or very often
really do feel better
I waited too long , I had been cutting sugar for a while because I felt better I waited to long to gut he other carbs , and was type 2 diabetic before I did which isn't good
heartburn was a regular issue for me , no heart burn in months since I started
I lost some weight , I probably eat to many apples and carrots now I stopped loosing weight but did get to a new 20 year low weight.
if you can't catch it , shoot it , pick it or milk it , it isn't food. if it needs a factory to make it avoid it

I've been on the carnivore diet for the past 4 years. It has changed my life. I am slowly adding back some berries into the diet. I would recommend the diet to anyone!

I went on the low carb, high protein diet too. I couldn't believe how quickly I lost 10 pounds. However, two problems emerged for me. Constipation was one. The other is my creatinine levels started to climb I found when I had my annual physical. I was sent to a nephrologist and found out I had stage 3 kidney disease. Let me be clear, the high protein, low carb diet diet didn't cause it. I had stage 3 kidney disease before that. My creatinine levels were elevated the last two years. But, high protein, low carb intake will cause your creatinine levels to elevate at a faster rate and could lead to kidney failure.
I have backed away from the diet. I still eat little bread or grains. I've never been much of a candy eater. But, eat one apple every day and occasionally some cantaloupe. I have been able to keep the 10 pounds I lost off too.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

Yes and no. Carbs aren't necessarily bad for you... You just have to eat the right ones in the right amounts.
Processed carbs are easily converted into sugar and will spike your blood sugar high enough that your body releases insulin to convert it into fat for storage.
Unprocessed carbs that still have high fiber are harder to digest and trickle glucose into the blood stream.
Most of us would not recognize the bread out ancestors ate. It still had the fiber in it... And nutritional value.
But it's nearly impossible to buy bread like that anymore. Since it has nutritional value it will spoil/mold quickly... One of the reasons Ma had to make it everyday.

Carbs hold water and once you cut out high carb diet you lose a bunch of fat and water weight fast. (as you can see in others comments.)
Our ancesters never ate grains or high carb diet. Mostly ate meat fish,eggs, nuts ,berries, mushrooms and fruit in season.
We dont even need fruit at all. Its bad for you. Just a bag of sugar mostly with a small amount of vitamins. You can get Vitamin C from better sources.
I eat mostly meat and fish, berries, a few green bannas and some veggies also use coconut,almond flower to make my own low carb cheesecake and cake, use Erythritol in place of sugar. I make my own low carb cholate. No juice pop or beer.
With a low carb diet its very important to eat fat with your meals,or you will have problems. Can either be animal fats, lard, butter or coconut,avacodo,olive oil. None of the seed oils should be consumed by humans.
carrots , nuts and apples help with the constipation
even dairy has carbs whole milk has 12 carbs per 8oz serving it was causing me problems with my blood sugar I used to drink a 1/2 gallon of milk at a time.
there are better for you carbs and worse for you carbs
good for you cabs are high fiber
a carrot has 9.7 carbs and 3.6g fiber
almonds have 6.1 carbs and 3.5 fiber

I briefly, very briefly looked into the carnivore diet a couple years ago. I think it was being talked about here on Tman.
A question for the guys doing this. How do you not get protein poisoning from only eating meat?
Remember the voyageurs were getting scurvy from not eating well and not getting their Vitamin C. How does one only eat meat and survive? Taking supplements on the side?

On January 1, 2016 I weighed 365. I quit eating bread, bagels, rolls etc. Have not had a slice of bread in 6 years, nor a burger on a bun. Limit myself to 1 desert a week, on Sundays. Eat only meat and veggies, maybe an apple once in a while. Lost 100 pounds in the first 2 years and have kept it off.

Fruit is not bad for you. Fructose is not near as bad as processed sugers. It's like anything. Moderation. Many fruits are low glycemic. Those are good to eat. Berries are very good for you.
