I could use some advice on what to do. I used the orange bottle for my first one and it doesn't look right. It's been drying for a week now, I haven't had time to mess with it since. It's only going to be a wall hanging. The whole process has been a disaster from the start.

Did you follow the instructions carefully?
Tanning a pelt involves several different steps, some time sensitive.
If you misapply any of them it will bugger up the results to varying degrees.

for my hooped beaver i hoop it while still damp so it gets a uniform oval or circle. youll need about twice as many hook points(holes) if your going to do that

Boco, I don't think I followed them to the letter. I can't seen to find 2 people who do any part of tanning the same way so I didn't think it would matter.

Trapper20, It didn't start out on a hoop, it started out on a scrap piece of plywood. I stretched it the best way I could make it fit the board since i didnt have anything else. I didn't get my hoops until about a week ago. The fur dried on the plywood for a month before I moved it over to the hoop. This is a really small beaver and my holes are about an inch - inch and a half apart.

Did you break it? I would suggest you get the pelt 100% done before you hoop it (unless you dry it first, then you have to stretch it). What is the finished product supposed to be? If it's a wall hanger that will be tacked on the wall, the hoop isn't necessary. If it's gonna be hooped on the wall, get it done, then hoop it. If you're just tanning a pelt, read (and follow) the directions! We all mess up, you may have to start over.

Quite honestly it looks like it's pretty much just a dried raw skin. Soak it up and start over and you should be fine.
