3 day waiting period in Florida. Used to be in Nebraska too. Cooling down period in case a person is mad at someone and buying a gun to off them.

we had a 48 hour wait on handguns implemented in 1976 when the WI handgun background check system went into effect and removed in about 2016 after a couple decades of instant NICs on making it not needed.

yes it was a fail safe put in as a provision , when people knew it would be used as a weapon against the people , staling gun sales with buricratic paperwork and delay.

Something you guys should understand is that there are only a few things that are universal to all 50 states. The NICs check is not one of them, but it is a requirement for a NICs or NICs like check to be conducted for every firearm purchase from a FFL. Some states have their own background check process they use, and submit later to the federal government.

There are a lot of reasons a person can get delayed for the check, so there isn't any clear cut bullet the internet is going to provide you that will explain it. Not all stores are the same, most of it is going to depend on state law really as far as the minimum 3 day hold or show a CCW, or just give it to you same day as long as you pass the NICs check. What I would recommend is that if you are constantly getting delays every time, you likely need to call and ask the FBI and/or the state agency conducting the instant check and fix whatever problem they are seeing in on their screen. Sometimes it can be as simple as you had some older parking ticket that you took care of, but it never made it through the system, all the way to a pending warrant for your arrest in a different state...like I said it can be anything and everything.

It stops crack dealers from selling stolen guns they took in trade for dope to gangsters and stickup men. Now that a check is required they can’t do that anymore

You are correct. It was handguns in my case. And I believe I couldn't buy one because I'm not a Florida resident.
In Nebraska I had to get a Firearm Purchasing Certificate from the County Sheriff and was able to buy a handgun the same day.

I can just go down to the local Ace hardware with a little cash and walk out with a pistol.
