On my way back from MO the other day I stopped at a gas station that had 91 octane gas for a good price around the no alcohol price so I filled up with it. I had a quarter tank but topped off with the 91 octane, I made it to SD from Sedalia MO on that tank of gas.

I filled up with the alcohol stuff and only had a quarter tank when I hit home so a huge difference in milage between the low and premium grades I figured I ended up with 50-60 more miles out of the 91 octane gas over the no alcohol fuel and way more over the alcohol added fuel.

Maybe the 91 stuff costs more but preforms way better is the better value.

I think a lot has to due with what octane the computers on your vehicle are geared towards. I would just follow the manufacturers recommends.

I would put 91 alcohol -free in the dump truck. Ran better and got better mileage.

Depends on your vehicle. I had an 89 Toyota years ago that got better fuel mileage on the premium (back then it was 92 octane) over the 87. But figuring out the cost it was always about a wash. I know I have owned a few different Toyotas that got quiet a bit better on 87 or better over the 85 octane cheap stuff they sell in Wyoming and Eastern Montana. And they all seemed to have more power on 87 or better over the 85. I've had some rigs that showed absolutely no difference between running the 87 and the premium also. So you have to test your particular rig and find out.

P.S. I've been told that for all practical purposes 92 octane and to a lesser extent 91 octane gas is virtually alcohol free whether it says so or not. Because they can't get that high of an octane rating with any measurable amount of alcohol.

I’m like Vinke...lawnmower, snow blowers and vehicles get it. I was told by a small engine guy that it helps to keep the carbon build up down.

I've always got a couple mpg less with gasahol than regular unleaded. I still burn it though.

The pumps by me say contains 10% ethanol. It's not as good as ethanol free gas. Horrible on small engine carbs if sitting too long and drys out rubber lines. Also less gas mileage. Give me good old fashioned 87 octane gasoline. All I want.

I THINK the gasahol/super unleaded/gas with ethanol added is all the same and is 91% octane.
Regular unleaded is 87% octane. I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I checked and that is correct. States that grow corn and promote ethanol is cheaper than regular unleaded. I have seen some states that had ethanol fuel higher than regular unleaded. Some states don't list it as having ethanol in it, some are proud to do so. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.

I drive a lot and 91 octane with no ethanol not only make my drivers run better, they get way better milage as well. Some of the ethanol adds here say “remember when you figure your milage, to factor in the cheaper price at the pump for ethanol. “ That should tell you all you need to know. Lol

Are you sure your ethanol-free is 91 octane? I see 87 at the pumps.
