I’ve delivered to 3 different job sites this am and have heard the same thing from everybody. Can’t get materials and can’t find help.

The local co-op can barely get wood chip animal bedding, factories have closed down because of no help.

When people receive the following:
Unemployment
Rent Assistance
Food Stamps
Money per child
And more!
And liberal drug laws!

I have been an employer since early 70’s in the construction industry!

And food is getting scarce? We get some stuff from Swans like ice cream and oven pizza's. Looking at their online catalog, they're probably sold out of half of the things they sell.
Getting weird.

Help wanted signs in the windows where I live.
You never know if our local Dollar General store will be open. They can't find enough employees to have regular hours.

I don't care how nice the hand soap smells, you should never walk out of the restroom sniffing your fingers.

Well, I guess 50 years of teaching to teach others to keep on teaching, "do whatever makes you happy" is bearing its fruit.
For some, it must be not working a J.O.B. makes them happy.

We do realize jobs comes with "bosses" and society is rebelling against authority at every level.
No. More. Bosses. For. Me. They. Cry.

The fabric of society is built on a foundation which has people answering for their actions if they are outside the norms of that society.
The goal posts of norms have been moved.
Jobs are an ancient concept to many who no longer wish to chase better stuff.
I speak with them every day and they are young and old, and come in all colors.
Quite interesting.

In many ways, the Western principles in place and progressing for 300-400 years are being challenged as never before.

Blessings,
Mark

I wonder where the "drive" to better themselves has gone with a lot of these folks. Is it a lack of self esteem or narcissism? I have some other ideas but I the truth is I don't get this not wanting to work mentality.

Probably asking the wrong people on this forum.

My daughter worked at a grocery store and would not tell them no when they asked her to work even a crazy schedule. She actually cried when I told her she wasn’t going into work the last time I was out plowing snow.

I saw the change in the 90’s. A friend and I were talking back then and he is a concrete mason, he said that the youngest masons were in their 40’s. Why? I think hard work in the construction trades the young don’t want to work that hard. Somewhere in the 2000’s electronics became the way to make a living so why work so hard.
Now here where I live the unions can’t even fill all the calls. It has brought a slow down in every part of life. Every business that is still working is doing so with minimum crews and wait times are long.

The C sickness and liberal drug laws just expedited what had already started. JMO!

It has become one whacky world hasn't it? But go to any third world country and young people can't find any job at all. I was in Ecuador recently and young people at busy intersections hawking penny candies and washing windshields. It's a shame. Wish we could trade some of our non-workers for their workers.

I retired 11 years ago. I have worked every year since then at multiple jobs. I get offered jobs a couple times a month. I like to learn new things so any job I take has to be interesting. It’s all vacation and trapping money.

I get calls regularly with inquiries about interest in becoming a full time driver when others learn of my part time gig. Once a month I get a call to see if I’ve changed my mind about becoming a crane operator. This is very intriguing as I have never done that but I currently am enjoying my situation too much to give in.

I was feeling really good that perhaps I was becoming more valuable the older I get even with all the aches and pains but now you folks tell me it’s because employers have no other options. Thanks a lot.

We just put out to bid construction projects we are hoping to complete this summer. No bidders. Not sure what we're going to do.

It does seem strange that those of us 50+ are hot commodities. It used to be we were the ones nobody wanted!
