I've asked coonman several times on here why he doesn't go get a CDL. He has a truck so must drive so what's the problem, couldn't pass something...? I'm sure he could find a safer environment with a CDL than sticking his head instead of a hydraulic press. But whatever, coonman will just coonman. It will be interesting after he starts collecting SS at 62 what he's manin beefs will be, besides not having any money...
New rules here in Iowa that started early February. You need to spend $3000+ in education at an approved school to get a CDL.

Right there is the root of all your problems. If you did more work and less griping you wouldn't have half the issues you claim to have.If I had an attitude like that when I was growing up,,me and my old man would both have had to go to the hospital.Him,,to get his foot removed from my arse.

With your obvious people skills and talents, you should be running a think tank or at least the democratic central committee. Pay is probably at least $25 per hour.

Fact. I am 47 and since my first job at maybe 8-10 years old no matter what I had to do I worked as hard as I could. I did the best job I could do. Period! The local farmers all knew my name and tried to get me for their jobs. When I graduated high school I got my first factory job and moved up quick. That was 1992. I now have grown that company from three molding machines to 23 machines and own it. Work hard as you safely can and if it is a dead end move on. The rest works it self out during boom or bust times.

If you want good money you got to go to where they pay good money. Any unskilled job on surface at one of the mines here will start around $28 hr.plus benfits.

Coonman, if you take one thing away From this thread, it should be to stop sticking your head into machinery that could lop your head off. I don't care what they tell you, they cannot make you take that kind of risk. So stop doing it. These days I'll bet a Wal-Mart greeter makes $15.
Unfortunately no one is going to get a better job for you. You gotta do it.

No matter how much the job is paying you should go to it and do the best possible job you know how to do. The guys who like slugging are just that... slugs. Now everybody has a down day or few days where you won't be productive as that is just human nature, maybe you have a back pain that day or what not. But if you take a job you know the payrate and for the most part what kind of work you'll be doing. If you feel your worth more, go market yourself and get a better gig.

Well, that's sort of a buzz kill for coonman. Maybe he can settle for being a parts pick-up/delivery guy for NAPA. Around here they run around just in cars. Probably don't need a CDL for that...

Another post on this?? I've listed a lot of places that are hiring down by you and you havent checked on any of them. It's a waste of anyone's time as we can't do it for you. There's a job fair coming up next week or the one after.in Dubuque. Of course there's a 99.9% chance you won't go. Why don't you stop at job service in Dubuque and ask them to help filling out some applications??? That would take some effort so I'm sure that's out of the question. Instead you'll complain over and over and that will be that.
I do wish you good luck and I mean that.

Perfect Upstate. Fair day’s work fair days wage. Work hard and get paid. When the days over you owe him nothing and he’s paid you so he owes you nothing.

The problem I see on today's work force is that some workers think they should be paid $20. Per hour when they are working just enough for $12. An hour. I see employees that try harder to keep form doing the work then the effort it would take to do it. These are the same people if they got $10 raise still would not do the job.
Bottom line don't like your job find something else If I am looking for a job I give that employer 100% not 60% because I think I should get paid more, that the way old school kids were brought up. In my opinion.

I worked as a carpenter for a lot of years, then I taught the trade for many more years. I retired bit still work about 30 hours a week at part time work and a bunch of hours in my business. One thing I always attempted to get into my student's head is as follows. Everyone is self employed.
Most would argue that statement. My contention is it is ones responsibility to sell their time to the highest bidder. If you want more money for your time, maybe it is a matter of developing more valuable skills that would help you get more money. Maybe one has to look at their work as if they were working for themselves, an attitude change. Always take a look at your work day from an observers prospective. If you were the boss and paying wage, would you be happy with the effort? Be honest, which is often hard for many, but be honest. I used to ask the students, would you hire yourself? That is a rather simplistic statement or outlook, but in truth, it is what it is.

I worked in a factory building air conditioners for 12 years. Money was good (then) but I did not like working there and then I am smart enough I could see they were slowly outsourcing the press and coil shop jobs I made up my mind that I was not staying and started looking around. Went back to school and got a job where I work half the hours and make about 3 times what I was.
Like someone stated above, getting up the nerve to walk away was the biggest obstacle. I was married with 2 little kids at the time too.
Take the advice already given and go to an employment service and see what is available in your area that fits your abilities and skills
