The term Heavy duck is more synonymous with the Winchester 21. The 3 inch Model 12 is more commonly referred as a Super-X Model 12. The 3 inch Model 12 is one heavy mother owing to a heavier barrel and the half pound lead slug that lives in the correct 13 5/8 length of pull stock. I have two. A '57 solid rib that is in very nice original condition. The second is a made up gun with a Simmons rib and some after market wood that someone cut down the stock to 13 inches. Made the gun unbearably nose heavy and far to short for my gorilla length arms so I put a standard length field stock on it with a zip-lok bag with 8 ounces of shot with a little wadded up paper towel to keep the shot bag from shucking around in the stock bolt hole and buttoned it up with a Winchester butt plate. Balances just right and really puts the hammer to turkeys and one coyote. I use Winchesters Longbeard LR load in no. 5's. Coyote was coming straight to me, didn't even need to move the muzzle. Hit it square in the face at 35/40 yards. Literally flipped it over on its back with all four feet in the air. Turkeys weren't co-operating that morning anyways.
