I grow my potatoes in mineral tubs. Today I got some horse manure that’s been aged. My question is can I plant start in with the manure or should I mix some dirt with it ?

Mix it. Unless it has been aged a very long time it would be way to hot to plat in.

Try it both ways horse manure doesn't have alot of anything but undigested grass on it. I find it doesn't hold water very well tends to bead up and run off rather then soaking it up.

I would mix it more so form the water absorbsion.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

I would mix in quite a bit of soil. soil is mostly mineral with limited organic matter, manure is almost all organic matter. To me mixing in a respectable amount of manure in more soil will give you a better plant growing base then just using it as is. Nice to have some soil that sets up a good structure and base for the roots to hold better. Manure is a unique substance it loosens clay and binds sand so spread the joy.

That's the key , it depends on how aged it is .
I get some every year to top off my raised beds .
It's actually soil when I get it .
Black rich soil with a PH
of around 5-6.5 .
The guy I get it from, turns it every week during the summer and keeps a couple piles going .
By fall it's soil.

The reason i said try one of each is they grow spuds in straw so why not horse poop.

Whole lot of difference in the nutrients type, volume and speed of release from a bale of straw to manure.

last spring I planted my taters in rows and filled them with straight compost. They grew well, made lots of taters, but they had very thick and rough skins on them. Didn't last after harvest but a month or so and they all began to rot. I won't do it that way again.

As another note, last year was terrible here for a garden. Real wet early then dry for a month then real wet again. Nothing did well. So I can't lay it all on how I planted the taters. But I was told the straight compost had a lot to do with them rotting so easily.

Like mentioned before, manure will make potatoes prone to scab. I once raised a bumper crop of yellow finn potatoes using chicken manure as the main fertilizer. The trick was to band the fertilizer below the seed potatoes as all the new potatoes will be produced above the seed spud, and therefore not be in contact with the manure.
