For what purpose are you skinning this otter for? If the fur market then the front legs should be cut off short and nailed or sewn closed, back feet trimed off and an inspection window provided by trimming the belly half way up to the penis hole. Otherwise it is a excellent skinning and fleshing job.

I was a bit concerned on leaving the feet turned like was shown. I don't think they will dry leaving them that way. I like to open the pads and pin them open and cut off the toe bones and just leave the claws.

Bctomcat, the otter will be sold, I leave the otter whole because it gives the buyer more marketing options, a few years ago a buyer was giving me $40 I think he was having them tanned and selling for wall hangers , he told me to leave all of my not perfect or ones with weak market complete and he’d pay a little more. Beav, I skinned feet to last knuckle, I tried to dry feet one time right side out with borax in it, not so good, I don’t split the pad because maybe the taxidermist might buy it.

I've got some badgers I skinned with feet on to put up yet, wish me luck! Still new at this finish thing, I hope I can do as good as you NF!
