Anybody use one? Thinking of purchasing a Harman pellet stove for next heating season.

Purchase the stove...purchase the pellets..it won't work without electricity. I prefer a wood stove that will heat if the lektric goes out.
Even propane will still give you heat without electricity if it's not a forced air furnace.

I am with Gary on this^^^...I have a woodstove...Needs no power and I have trees...

Works great.If you want one to work without electricity you will have to get a gravity fed one.

I believe some have blower motors too..

The ones with blower motors need electricity. You have the option to hook up a blower which needs electricity or don't hook it up and you don't need electricity with the gravity feed one.I have had both.

I run a pellet stove and love it.i burn a bag in 24 hrs then when it gets real cold I fire up the insert. The electric thin just have a generator handy. My place is wired with an outdoor plug to plug into when the powers out just hook it up to the tractor back it up plug it in throw a switch and engage the pto all easy peasy

Harman makes a great pellet stove, I have one takes a bag a of pellets a day and keeps the house nice and warm. Yes they need electricity but so does your well. The Harman is easy to clean also.

Me too. and I can get a lot of wood for free. Can't get pellets free.

A small blower can be run off Solar Panels.

We run a pellet stove and love it.We went thru a fuel oil furnace,then went to propane,now its pellets and we love it.We have a century old two story farmhouse,a woodstove that doesn't use blowers doesn't cut it here.And blowers use electricity so what's the difference?We had a wood stove in our kitchen,yes,it warmed the kitchen and the room above it,and that's it.Every application is different depending on the layout of your house,ours was built on numerous times over the last century so its all cut up,if the power went out two rooms had heat with wood,which might not sound bad but the west end of the house still froze.If we had small one story place where a wood stove centrally located could heat the whole place without blowers I'd go with wood.But one stove with blowers heats our place well.When the wind chill drops below zero the west end of the house definitely feels it,we're talking about installing a smaller stove in our living room which would cover the west end of the house.

A bag of pellets is 40 pds.,so50 bags to the ton.A ton gets us thru 5-6 weeks,depending on how cold it gets.We go thru more than slot of people because that's all we use for heat,we're not using a backup of any kind.

If your already set up with hot water base boards then the Harman PB 105 Boiler is the way to go. Its been 12 years.

Thanks guys, I have the back up generator if needed , a Honda 2200i, or I could set up a ups battery system for not much money. It's 120v. Yes it will cost more money for pellets but after 40 plus years of heating with wood I want to try something different, today's top of the line pellet stoves or boilers have some pretty good features . Brian's system looks pretty dam good, but I am not set up for that type of unit. With several pellet manufacturers not far away in state, I think I will give it a go. I use a little propane gas for my range and dryer.... Last fill of 21 gallons was 4.09 a gallon,prior to the Russia screw up. And with a heat pump for the so called ,shoulder seasons, warm winter days ,fall and spring it should work out ok. If that doesn't work ,I can plug in the Toyotomi kerosene heater for another backup if worse comes to worse, kero is readily available on site or sold locally if really needed. Within the last year have added 3 1\4" of foam insulation to the outside of house, new windows,siding and will add similar to the basement this coming fall ,winter. It is much tighter, warmer and quieter since the upgrades, alot of work but been well worth it.
