Anyone have any experience with it? I have a friend that did his time in 'Nam, got shot, came home... the thing he talks about is how bad the defoliant affected him later in life...

BAD, BAD stuff! Affected many Vets lives.

"Elmo R. Zumwalt III, son of the admiral who ordered the spraying of Agent Orange in Vietnam and who was exposed to the defoliant himself, died at his home Saturday from cancer. He was 42. Zumwalt, a lawyer, said he never blamed his father for his disease."

I knew three guys that were exposed, and all three died from issues that the VA said were agent orange related.

Coop, with all due respect, I doubt that there will many replies regarding this topic because people that were exposed to it, it is my understanding, few have survived since VN.

There are some Nam vets on this forum. I'm guessing the rate of exposure had a lot to do with where you were and what you were doing.

I have a friend who flew 104 missions as a pilot in an F4. He ended up on the ground a time or two but survived the immediate ordeal. He is 81 now and has been having issues that he believed were caused by his exposure to Agent Orange for many years. He has been going round and round with the VA and they finally agreed that his health problems are the result to his exposure to Agent Orange. A true American Hero!

A great friend and member of my hunting camp passed two years ago. He was a Vietnam vet and got a substantial settlement from the government because of his exposure to Agent Orange and the associated health issues.

My father in law is a Vietnam veteran and was exposed to Agent Orange. He's developed a lot of skin cancer in the last couple of years. VA said it was due to Agent Orange.

I'd imagine there were soldiers under trees that were being sprayed with Agent Orange. One of the horrors of war, and we have an administration trying to start another.

Good friend and neighbor tried for years to get compensated for agent orange issues from his time in Nam. They finally gave him a disability for something else. Shortly after he developed an aggressive lung cancer and died within months. His doctor said the type of cancer he had was directly linked to agent orange. He was 72.

Not good stuff and it has been proven by plenty of vets it did harm to them. Any thing that kills vegetation, bugs or is not good for ya.

My uncle died from cancer that was caused by agent orange. He was a Nam vet, and spoke about being covered with that stuff at times.

Fought the goverment for years, to get my disability. The throat cancer and lawyer, ended the battle. Have the documentation & paperwork now.
My VA team Doctor caught my throat cancer very early very lucky, go in every 8 wks ., scope down the nose into throat. Never sleep much night before, makes the night filled with g??Ks in the wire

Any VFW Post, American Legion Post State/Federal Office or VAMC has a Vet Rep on staff, go see one, and get the paperwork going.

There are many presumptive illnesses connected to agent orange exposure. If you type in "agent orange presumptive illness" you will get a list of most of them. The VA recognizes many as automatic qualifiers for their compensation guidelines. I would recommend that he contacts his local VA rep to get more information on getting help for his illness.

BUT......if I remember correctly you must be able to prove you were on the ground in VN during the period 1962-1975 ??? Should be easy enough to do.

Oh the other hand.....I have a good friend in Fairbanks who is former SF and he has been having big problems with tumors growing in his arms and legs. VA wouldn't help him at all and he ended up at Mayo clinic. They say it is obviously from AO.

Just got out of the hospital again. Third time for heart attacks. Had 2 stints in the first time, triple bypass the next and this time 4 stints. No heart disease history in my family. Spent almost 3 months flying in Cambodia in Apr-June 1970. There were no firebases cleared before we got there so they sprayed it to clear out the jungle. Everyone was exposed. One more thing the government denied for years.
