About 40 years ago (back when the local Sears had a sporting goods department) there was a big ol' musky lure about 8" long made to look like a muskrat. It was $20 or $30 if I recall and I desperately wanted it but that was unheard of money for an eight year old at that time. I regret to this day not buying that thing and putting it in a drawer for 40 years.
I have tried looking for an image on the internet but I've never found anything similar LOL - must have been a local maker or something.
It sat on the bottom shelf of the lure display for a very long time.

Just happy to be here.

They make a fairly new musky lure, within the last 5 years called the beaver tail.Different colors are made it looks like a skinny muskrat or a small mink, good action I do not have one I think they sell for $35 to $40.I've watched video's using them and having some catches using the beaver tail lure.

I recall more than one old timer tell how the big muskies were caught. They harness up a live chipmunk or gopher with couple hooks. Put it on a piece wood as a rafting and float it in to good cover. Then pull the critters off the float and let them swim around..
I'm guessing I'm not the only one here ever heard that story.

Many years older brother netted a catfish that was lollie gagging on surface. When got to looking it had a muskrat tail hanging out of its mouth.. I may actually have a photo of that stuck in a shoe box somewhere.

So it surly happens.

When muskie first appeared here in Maine I was fishing a dead water for them and couldn't quite place something being wrong. There was something missing. It finally dawned on me one day fishing there. There were no frogs around.

I worked with a fellow years ago from up north. Said they used to put a harness of sorts on a live chipmunk with treble hooks attached.
They would moor a small plank of wood off the bank a ways, set the chipmunk on it and row the boat out aways from it. The Chipmunk would not jump in the water, just pace all over the board.
They just set and watched while the chipmunk walked all around on the board, making it ripple the water. Eventually they'd see action from underneath and would drag the chipmunk off the board at the opportune moment and the fight was ON !
I think he also said it wan not legal at the time, but it worked very well.
