I was invited to have a birthday dinner for my aunty who turned 75 and had to be at the restaurant at 1600hrs.
At about 1530 I got on a 6 lane state road (Eastbound) with a 60 mph limit. A blue Maxima go on the on ramp 2 cars in front me. I saw him go up the curb and figured probably on his phone. We get up to speed he doesn't look and switches to left lane almost hitting a car then he almost hits the center concrete barrier. He drives on the shoulder barely not scraping the barrier. He switches to middle lane without signal or looking almost takes out that vehicle. He goes back to the left shoulder. This continues a few times and hes speeding. I decided to call 911 as he was clearly intoxicated.
From the time I called to the time I tell the location he had almost hit 20 cars and the barrier numerous times. By this point numerous cars had either slowed down or sped up to give him room, including me. I was giving dispatch play by play. PD said units are on the way and hung up. Another mile or so he had slowed down but now next to right lane barrier cars were passing him he then decides to speed up and come to the far left lane (my lane). He came within 1' of side swiping my truck doing 50. It was at this point I noticed in the back seat was a big kid car seat my heart sank then I noticed it looked empty. He then switched to far right shoulder which is now the exit from this road and the on ramp for I-25 Southbound (65 mph) and it looked like he was scrapping the barrier. I called 911 again got a different dispatcher gave them updated info and said I am going Northbound from him so I can't keep an eye on him anymore. They said units are on the way and hung up.

All said and done from what I noticed at least 50-75 vehicles were being protected from this guy. He almost hit the barriers probably 50-100 times. In the first 2-3 minute 911 phone call I counted 10 times he almost hit the center barrier.

I really hope he was caught before he hit someone.

The way he was driving reminded me of a 2 year old playing Mario Kart.

It was so insane. I wish I had it on video but I was on the phone with PD and SO

I have seen some crazy drunk driving before but those were nothing compared to today. I've known many friends and family to die from DWI accidents.

Scary

No wonder so many don't feel comfortable bicycling on the roads

Guy could have had a medical condition instead of being drunk. I saw a similar incident one time where that was the case. At any rate, I hope the police got him stopped before anyone got hurt.

He probably had to poop.

Seriously though, I'm kinda (but not too) shocked the dispatcher would hang the call up. Unless you weren't the only one who called and someone else was already feeding them the info.

That's one of those instances where you want to follow just to see what the outcome was.

I wish bicyclists would fear for their life if the get within 10 feet of a road. Here they own the road. They control the country roads by riding where you can't get around them. Worst part about it is we have bike trails they could use, but prefer to slow everyday working people from getting different jobs throughout the day. Bikes should be outlawed from country roads around here. Sorry, rant over

Agreed. They have the right of way but many of them are on a suicide mission at the same time.

I agree Adam i hope they got him stopped !

As for bicyclists we get a few up here in the middle part of Mt and on these narrow 2 lane roads it can be dangerous for everyone there's a lot of logging and grain trucks hauling loads not to mention heavy wide loads going down the same roads .

Yes they have a right to be on the roads also but they will survive a trip into the ditch way better doing it themselves over being pushed there with the front of a truck .

Bicyclists here are suicidal. They run stop signs red lights make left turns w/o yielding. I can't count how many close calls I've had with them.

No this guy wasn't having a medical episode. This incident took place for about 7 miles plus he was driving like that already when I first saw him. When he nearly side swiped me his visual appearance was intoxicated possibly from strong drugs or he's been on a drinking binge for a few days. He was coherent enough to not hit the barriers most of the time.

Those idiots need to be smacked upside the head. Ya git outta the road when a car comes. Same as a pedestrian.
Roads are for vehicles, bike lanes are for bikes. Sidewalks are for people.
If you can't drive or ride near the posted speed limit. yield to those that can and do.
Idiots make me sick ! No common sense or decent upbringin.
The bigger fools are the ones writing the stupid laws. Next biggest is the nuts that vote them into office. And of course those who complain but don't vote.
Use the road .... requires a license, insurance, registration and annual inspections. (toddlers under 6 on tricycles exempt ... except for interstates and major beltways)
Crybaby BS ... all the way !

Any man that wears one of those little plastic hats and yoga pants out in public has some bad mental health issues. I think maybe their mommy's didn't hug em enough so they seek attention from strangers. They don't get enough of that either so they obstruct traffic and pretend not to know why people are upset with them. Remind me of women who jog half naked in the middle of the day down the sidewalk of heavy traffic roads. Lets em complain about men starring at them. Might be a running track around a park or a bike trail only a a quarter mile away but they dont get any attention then.

The intoxicated driver must not caused a crash I haven't seen any news coverage last night or today.
I really hope he was caught.

You know -- a few years ago that would have been front page news --- now you are lucky if you can get a cop to show up (not the cops fault) -- police are mop up crew in our neck of the woods now.

I'm not surprised to hear that. There's a shortage nationwide crime is rampant and police are under a microscope.
Usually there's always several LEO on these 2 major roads. Knowing my luck there wasn't one even close in the area.

Now that I think about it, I'm surprised there wasn't one LEO on the major road where this occurred. That's how often police or SO are on that road. If there was an accident it would've been on the news especially since dispatch recieved call(s) about it.

You are giving the media too much credit. I used to play firefighter and cop (many years ago) I call it playing because I was never full time at in any of those positions. -- the media was bad then about wrong information and it has gone nothing but downhill since then. I have supported Police, Fire, Medical -- my whole life but have been having a hard time supporting them now.

Maybe I am. Usually local media loves those kind of stories.

Had an incident like that here. GSP saw him and turned around to pursue, but it turned out to be too late. Swerved in the turning lane and hit a gentleman head on. Both were killed instantly. Turns out the young man swerving suffered from seizures, but thought it was under control with meds. Apparently not.

probably knew they weren't going to have a car there any time soon or had other calls to get to, eveyr politicain seems to think running the 911 center on minimum staff to save $$ is a good idea these days that is another rant for another time , so the play by play is just excruciating knowing no car will be there for 10 , 15 , 20 minutes they drive through jurisdictions in a few minutes each often.

i have followed several line to line , into the gravel , usually texting when I do pass them , one like that on Saturday as I pass my wife looks down and over and can see the guys face lit up by the phone

stayed on the phone cross the county ,been transferred to the next county , finally i am where I was going or they turn off
