My goal is to get it sealed back up ASAP it should go fast with the steel frame if it held up if not I will shorten the shed up and use it for storage then build a new one. The wife wants a garage so I’m thinking build a 3 car one and one stall would be my new workshop then.

I gave it a once over last night during fire watch I’m shocked what made it through the heat like a jug of fish oil that did not melt and glass jars of skunk oil did not break that was on the floor not far from the main fire. I’ll see If the freezer and fridge work today I fired up a spare freezer incase they don’t work.

80oz of essence and all of my MJs all conis but the 50 110s on laths and skinning machine were in the steel building and safe. I had stretchers in both buildings so I did not lose them all most were going the 4H trapping class anyways that I did not use anymore.

I sell in the grease as much as I can now the 20+ skunks I did put up are toast that’s a shame with so many nice skunks this season.

Insurance... mine replaced what I lost 100% if bought another one. If I lost something and claimed it, but chose not to buy another, it was valued at a prorated amount, sometimes as little as 15 or 20% on older items.

Replacement building... I replaced my 2 bay 24X28 garage/fur shed with a new 36X40 3 bay pole barn, and built a dedicated 16X14 insulated room in the back for fur, hunting, fishing equipment. I put 10' lean too's on both sides and it gives me a ton of extra room for utility trailer, quad, lawnmower, etc. Nice upgrade but definitely not the way to go w/ all the things I lost.

Insurance guy will be by tomorrow then I can get to fixing it, we cleaned it out loaded up my 12 foot trailer another dump trip maybe 2 might be in order. I talked it over with the wife I’m thinking about shortening the building to 20 feet so 20’X12’ since we are putting up a 3 car garage this summer. The plan is to turn one end into a workshop.

Being a steel frame I’ll cut it then salvage the good lumber mostly treated 2X6s from the bad end it will be water tight in a week or so windows will be the hardest but if I find windows I’ll frame to fit them. Still need to rewire it.

I was shocked that the fridge and freezer are still working but I had to run a HD extension cord from the other building.

Jerry, you should be able to order vinyl windows to whatever size you need.

Had the same thing happen a few years ago to my trap storage barn. 100 plus round colonies,400 traps and a lot of other stuff. You have a good attitude and you will be fine. Already a memory for be but it still hurts a bit. Neighbours got my quad and skidoo out by picking them up and carrying them. I was 60 miles away and this was at my buddy’s farm.

Your already on the way to cleaning up. Keep after it and good luck.

Insurance guy was here today good news so far the fur shed was covered under other buildings maybe even the boiler since it heated the house (I need to rewire it) great guy he said put in for the skunk pelts that I lost I was shocked.

I said I might have to explain some items like a gallon of coyote butt bungs. LOL He said write down everything even the fridge and small freezer he said the smoke might kill it in a short time if it ran at the wrong time during the burn. Even the stretchers and lure he said to put it down too. Pretty much if it was in the shed put it down unless your sure it’s OK.

Sounded like he was trapping bounty tails with his kid now said it got his kid interested in trapping.

Good reminder to keep a good inventory of your belongings in sheds and the house. I know I need to update mine

Nice to hear some good news for a change. Most adjusters have a bad rap but this guy sounds like a good person all around.

Check your policy because most will be open ended for a year for incidentals that may have been over-looked.
The heat does a number to the insulation in the freezers walls so they may run but the power they draw is past the point of return
Remember that the copper to the steel cooling coils does not like heat and some freon may escape and moving them upsets those areas...speaking from experiences.

I’m taking photos of everything I’d rather show proof then be seen as a crook. LOL

I’ve heard of the guys having a bonfire with their coon hides but this is a little extreme. Glad no one was hurt.
