k snow OP trapper K Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 6,408 east central WI	I managed to sneak in a little bench time tonight. Here is my precision measuring tool. I use the wire to measure where the hollow ends up near the tip. I mark this on the outside of the horn, add an inch or a bit more, then cut to length.

k snow OP trapper K Joined: Oct 2009 Posts: 6,408 east central WI	Next is cutting the base. I use electrical tape to lay it out, then trace the edge in pencil. You can see how thick the horn base end is after it is cut. I will shape the outside nice, then thin the base from the inside. I spend a bit of time laying out the cut to make sure the base looks square from all angles. Before I do much more, I will drill the tip hole. I don't want to invest too much more work if I screw up that step. And here is the horn I am working on next to a raw bison horn. Lots of scale and roughness to remove.

Got me a Sibley horn and bag…he’s well known for sure It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.
