Here are some pics of one of his latest. Fifty caliber, octagon to round barrel, curly maple stock. I am going to lay out some simple carving patterns. He will do the carving, then stain and finish.

Most of the parts are purchased. The stocks start as planks, so that is all hand work. A lot of the brass are rough castings, so filing, sanding and polishing them. Locks need tuned.

Yep. He likes doing them over metal ones. A lot easier to make. Most early rifles had wooden patchboxes.

Thats why the carving will be simple. The wood is so nice we want to let it show itself off.

Nice rifle. The panel around the lock is way too big and needs to be reduced. It should be no more than about 1/8" around the lock and can taper out a little more towards the beaver tail at the rear.

Similar stock to the Jim Kibler Colonial Rifle kit he produces and sells. Your father certainly does nice work, especially from scratch !
