Scary times ahead. I own 155 acres. 35 acres in grassland. I pay the taxes for the farm and expenses from hay sales. Can't afford to fertilize my hayfields this year. I will produce a third of the hay that I normally do. Of course the price of a roll of hay will increase but not as much as the increase in fuel and labor.

I have been seeing this all over the place tonight. This is just another example of media scare tactics in the name of <pick something>. The corresponding article on FNC's own website about this very same thing clearly provided the context that this is in reference to third world countries, not the US.

It will be 2-3 years until you get to see the full effect -- Farmers have to grow something for two reasons. 1. It is in their blood and 2. They have to do something with the ground or it is lost. Most are already committed for this year, If the product prices don't keep up with the increased production costs many in my area will be able to ride it out. They will start modifying their farming practices to try to make a profit --- but will still try to keep producing (everythings cyclical). By the 2nd year most reserves will have been eaten up and the equipment maintenance bills will start to increase -- any unjustified labor will have already been let go. Some rental ground that is marginal will be returned to the owner ( who usually wants nothing to do with working it in the first place). ----- So we will truly see the results of this about election time 2024. You see it takes time to kill off a perfectly healthy country -- granted this administration has fast-tracked the process.

Thats not good. Who knew that Russia produces the worlds fertilizer. Of course that really dont matter now after our politicians let the Chinese government buy up millions of acres of US farmland.

It's not media scare tactics when the cost of a ton of fertilizer goes from 320 dollars last year to 800 this year for standard 10-10-10.

Been to the grocery store lately? Notice any price difference? Gasoline makes the headlines but grocery cost have increased more. You can thank your Joe.

We are being lied to. Russia and Ukraine have nothing at all to do with devaluation of the dollar.

Yep fertilizer has been doubling exponentially for many years now. It's already been out of sight for many years now. This just skyrockets the price. Around here in the grapes alot of farmers have gone to spreaders that fit down the rows and using cow crap from the local dairy farms. Dairy farmers have already been spreading it from their slurry ponds on the corn and hay fields for years. Where there's a will there's a way. Change and adapt or fall by the wayside.

People have been talking about the collapse of the dollar for a looooong time. This winter might be bad.

Since I eat nothing but meat/fat and most of that is wild, we should be able to ride it out.

This is Biden’s quote-
With regard to food shortages—“yes, we did talk about food shortages, and, uh, and it’s gonna be real. The price of these sanctions is not just imposed upon Russia; it’s imposed upon an awful lot of countries, as well. Including European countries and our country, as well.”

Might not be that you won't be able to find food, but more that you just can't afford it.

Every time people have a fear of what Putin or the Little Rocket Man might do, I hear "If They Do They Will Pay". When we buy food, gas, clothes, wood or toilet paper it soon correlates to who "They" are.

We have a trade deficit of $860 billion annually and national debt of 30 TRILLION and a government that is still telling people we are going to spend our way out of it. I'm not real smart but at some point our spending is going to bear fruit and we've sown an awful lot of spending seeds.

Well ya need natural gas to produce fertilizer. So a simple answer would be to increase domestic NG output. Stop the nonsense of growing corn to make ethanol and use those areas for wheat production. Increase domestic oil production to A. lower the prices at the pump and B offset the 10% ethanol thats in the gogo juice now.
Ukraine is a big producer of grain and won't be doing much of that this year as the fields are mostly being tilled by tanks this season. Russia is not going to export much of the stuff either. So domestic production would be the obvious choice IMHO. We have the raw materials right here below our feet.
However i don't have much hope that our mail order president and his house of wayward clowns are going to to the right thing.
