I hate using Backbreaker. End up with too much weight in the boat, stay up way too late in the fur shop, bad back, on and on.......................

My favorite, and has been for seasons, is Paul's "Beaver Plus". Although there are other lures that do well for me too!

Dobbins Woodchipper. My absolute favorite although not considered a castor lure.

I liked Backbreaker the best. I started making my own lure three years ago, with the goal of producing something similar to Paul’s Backbreaker. My stuff works, but it’s a cheap imitation to to the good real thing. Kinda like going to Walmart and buying their knock off soda pop.

If you can't catch Beaver using "Backbreaker" you should not be Trapping Beaver. 100% guaranteed!

There are several good commercial beaver lures. Backbreaker is a fine one and Fox Hollow's Dam-a-Dam.

But, it is extremely hard to beat raw castor juice and/fresh sac oil....

Been using Paul Grimshaws beaver lure #22 since my early years, over 25 years.
Couple years ago when I heard Paul was getting out of business. I ordered several large bottles of it.
Its taken hundreds of beaver in all seasons. I do full time ADC beaver control.
Still got a life time supply. Now I have been making it into paste
And its lasting longer on sets and extending my supply.
I use others with good success. WCS Beaver Blaster and Mark Junes
Flat Tail Frenzy. I use couple on my own that are food based. These are limited to
Mid winter thaw or ice out but are killer for couple weeks
First thing in spring. Basically poplar bud oil and birch in paste.

I haven't trapped beaver for the past few years but I tried a few before Backbreaker and, when I saw how well it worked, I looked no further. I don't think a beaver can smell it and not check it out.

I make my own. But honestly with the price of castor the last couple years it would be cheaper to buy it, mine is almost straight castor and with most commercial lures selling at $20 for 4 ounces that comes out to $80/pound for lure, which is what castor is going for now, last year I sold my castor for $95/pound.

The waterproof tail slapper seems to stay on lure stick for days, go on 10 days, after heavy rains, I use another lure stick with other brand, more rain, is old tailslapoer good or relure for rain, ?
