Up here, the occasional black walnut in the metro area usually simply just goes to the land fill ground up (branches). I don't know what happens to the main bole, never heard of anyone successfully sending it out of state to be bought by a lumber company. Maybe it happens. No real mills for several hundred miles... If the trees are from in town, they won’t hardly take them at sawmills around here. They fear metal (nails, etc.) in the log.
