After a lot of filing, I am about as thin as I dare to go on the spout and ring. I still have some shaping to do on the strap ring, I want to round it a bit more and do a little chip carving on it. Couldn't resist scraping and polishing a bit. The shine is just from a touch of mineral oil, nothing fancy.
Overall I am happy, but I do wish I had made the octagon section a bit longer. It looks a bit blunt to me.

Making horns could be a new addiction…lol. I could see that happening. I can’t tell the difference between a good horn and an excellent horn. They must have a Horner Association and forum…with you tube videos. But the real tips and tricks are found by working with one of those guys. Just like everything else…practice ,practice . Your on you way ,to a great lifelong hobby

They are very addicting. I've made a handful already, sold a couple to buy more raw horns. Nothing beats hands on time, thats true for just about anything. There is the Honorable Company of Horners, their work is amazing. First horn I ever bought was by Lee Larkin, a true master of horns.

do you do the hot beeswax dip on the big plug for a air tight seal?

I have heard of it , never plugged my own horn

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I boil the horn to make it soft, then tap the plug in. I use a wood glue on the plug also. All mine have ended up air tight.

Yep, my mom spun the yarn and the wife knitted it. Heavy and toasty warm.
