So they “lost” you as a customer because a worker wouldn’t risk her job and take back an item that was no longer within the return window? They have to draw a line somewhere. I can’t imagine the ego it takes to expect someone to risk their job for a coffee pot.

We still grocery shop in town but everything else comes from Amazon. Free shipping, I don’t spend anything on fuel or go to a city, and it’s quick.

You're missing the point.
Or maybe you didn't comprehend what I said in my original post.

No, I do get it. But they have rules they have to follow, that they don’t make. Is it fair to expect them to risk their jobs for you?

You apparently missed that part were they told me to bring it in and if it was infact defective they would replace it.
Retailers always have the option to bend their policies; that's what they told me they would do.

Why are you buying chinese junk in the first place.
Buy good English enamel-will last your lifetime and then some.

That would be nice if I could find it.
I'm now scouring second hand stores looking for the good stuff.

I always hit the second hand stores down south at Christmas. It’s not unusual to have my socks and underwear packed inside a cast iron frying pan or a nice old pot in my checked baggage.

The next crappy hurdle in life is just around the corner. How we decide to get over it and move on with our lives (or not) is totally up to us.
