Dirt bikes are safer than horses, the dirt bike has brake levers!

we have several of these for the grand kids. occasionally check the bolts on the belt and chain guards, exhaust, and air filter housings. they can eventually work loose, so once they do, replace them with a few drops of lok-tite. the coleman website has replacement parts, and their shipping has been prompt.

Good to know fossil thanks. He is good about checking his 4 wheeler and grandpa makes sure he knows how to do the maintenance on anything he rides.

sounds like youre getting him off to a good start, as far as responsibility goes. theyre also alot more stable on gravel roads with the wider tires, than the dirt bikes. i think you made the right decision.

Agree!

When I was 11 we had a 100cc dirt bike.

As long as he is responsible like you say, and if you think he is ready for it.

Also, he gets to work for something to be his.

Sooner or later, he will get hurt! I have been riding a motorcycle for over 50 years, did I get hurt, yes. But they are fun.

I met them at grandpa's house, went through the owners manual, showed him what to inspect before riding, how to put oil and gas in. He can pull start it himself and he seemed good to go.
He was a bit nervous (blamed me for it from my safety speech) he was awful wobbly but figured out a bit more speed makes it more stable and had a blast. Now he knows he needs to pick up sticks and weed whip before he gets to ride from now on.

Grandpa has a happy grandson for sure.

Get him some goggles or safety glasses. Bugs, weeds and twigs hurt.

hey can that thing drag a deer

I have thought it would be fun to build one that is more adult size that could drag a deer and would wind out about 10mph and a big muffle to make it quite

Bought my 3 boys quads/bikes when they were about 6-8 yrs old -- upgraded as they got older. Never had a drug problem.... Did not play a lot of video games.... Learned to love the dirt and be outdoors.... Spent a lot of time with me -- riding to fishing spots and eating lunch "on the trail". My boys are good men now -- Best money I ever spent. One thing - Get a quad/bike and consider riding with him while he still wants you too... Enjoy!!!

I say yes. It’s up to grandpa whether it is a gift or a business transaction. Either is acceptable. In a family even labor should be an expression of love. None family members pay and should pay well.
