Why do they call it KS basketball? 18 athletes and only one of them is from KS. https://kuathletics.com/sports/mbball/roster/Are there any varsity players that are NOT being paid with a scholarship?

Kind of like University of Nebraska.. And it's down fall in my opinion. Prime example was women's basketball. Yeah they had a good year with a couple of in-state natives. Maybe one. In the meantime they got beat by Creighton and South Dakota whom both went quite a ways deeper into the play offs.. That both have a roster largely made up of Nebraska natives.

DWC I have no clue. Just have no interest in watching people that are paid to play a game, and no idea why people get so excited over their state college when the athletes are all hired from out of state.
Its too bad its not like high school sports. Nobody getting paid and the athletes are locals.
Fan enthusiasm from watching strangers get paid to play a game is something I just don't think I will ever understand.

Why shouldn't players be able to profit on their likeness? They're not being paid by the school (at least, not supposed to). This system is better than all the back alley stuff that used to go on, even though that still happens some.

Well one of the biggest things for recruiting in-state kids is the local fan base supports it. Helps pack the stadiums for 1. Helps create a culture that is similar to people that live within the state. One that people can get behind and be proud of and excited about. Many times the local kid from a small populated state gets overlooked for some prima donna five-star that shows up and gets his butt whooped by a walk-on that worked harder than him. And that in turn makes five star better. Cultural is and should be worth something. Like I say when the particular University is getting its butt whooped by other universities that recruited its own kids within its own state. There's something wrong there

We're clearly running out of things to complain about on TMan.
Yeah, there are punks in college sports and paying them to appear on car dealership ads is an awful idea which will breed more punks. And, our football team has had some major punks over the years--local punks and punks from other states. But, when you come from a state like Oklahoma, it's all some Okies have.
But as the father of a current varsity athlete at the University of Oklahoma, I can personally attest that I see a lot of good in college sports. To keep it relevant to this thread, my daughter is teammates with some really good kids from across the country and the world. Some of those kids will stay here and contribute. Even those that leave have hopefully had a good impact on the university, the students and our state while here. Hopefully.
