When we moved up to the farm it's about 100 miles from my other house one of my boys got excited and exclaimed "look dad your pet buzzards followed us here" they were 3 and 6 then. I feed them there also. Seemed to have got into their routine flight path. They checked routinely and things were gone fast. Within an hour some times.

The black headed ones I'm not a fan of.

I would go the dog route. Mine does not let any bigger bird land near the place. Same goes for the great Pyrenees that hangs out with us. Bears, Coyotes, bobcats, foxes and birds of prey and even crows get chased off as soon as they come into sight. One of the 3 dogs is always watching and the little one will get the others attention when he spots something and they are off to the races.

Let's go Brandon

Seen turkey vultures my whole life i'm on a turkey vulture fly route along the shores of lake Erie. Seeing as there are no thermals to ride on over the lake they must follow the shore line until they get to the Niagara river between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. They been going through by the thousands now. They are very beneficial here and clean up all road kill, my carcass pile, dead deer and all my fish waste from filleting. Never seen or heard of one attacking anything alive. I find it hard to believe one was attacking your calf but stranger things have happened. In almost sixty years I've never seen one on anything that wasn't stone cold dead

Simple, Play dead and when he comes up for a snack, grab him by the throat and make friends with him but keep holding his throat tight so he won't puke on you. Even friends have been known to puke on one another from time to time.

Both Turkey Vultures and Black Vultures can be a problem for stock. The Black V. is the worse of the two. T. Vultures have been in about 90% of the U.S. forever, and B. Vultures are gaining ground on them. Used to be a guy never saw a Black much north of the Ohio River, now Michigan has a few in the southern Lower Peninsula every year. Turkey Vultures, AKA "Buzzards", are very common here and always have been, at least in my memory.

You are so full of crap your eyes are brown!! How do you think they feed ? Their beaks are designed to shred flesh Guy I fish with his dad has a permit to shoot them They were blinding and killing new born calves The eyes are the first opening on a carcass that hasn’t ruptured yet

A 12 yr old boy with a couple bricks of 22’s will create a considerable radius of slaughter. It’s like having a young Mongol or Zulu living in yer backyard.

I have a good friend who ranches north of Broadus MT. He starts calving in mid April and does not finish until mid May. He as a lot of problems with Turkey vultures pecking the eyes out of his calves. It is an ongoing thing. I have never had a problem but we are done calving before the bugger show up in the spring.

I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.

I'm kind of surprised. I live in cattle country. Turkey vultures are lousy here. I think they're disgusting roosting in abandoned Barnes and nesting in them. I don't know really what they're good for. And we never used to have any, like about 30 years ago. but never have we had a problem. and I don't know any neighbors or friends anywhere that have had any problem with turkey vultures and calving, that was shared with me

I'll take the vultures any day over the white tailed buzzards ( baldies) or the goldens.

I had problems last week with a small group of them around the new calves. Sent a couple warning shots in there direction and they haven’t been back.

They DO have talons and very sharp beaks.Thats how they tear apart the carcasses they feed on.And he didn't say it carried away an 80lb. calf.He said it lifted off one,,,,as in was sitting on one then it flew off it.
