I must be lucky or dumb. I've used the marketplace numerous times with no problems. Have never been asked to do any of that. Of course, us Nebraskans are completely honest folk. Lol

The Pegasus malware was used to hack Jeff Bezos's phone by the Saudis. Mr. Bezos had to click the link to open the malware. The new version only needs the intended victim's phone number and it's done. This is of course an expensive tool to use on someone posting ads on the marketplace.

When doing a Craigslist or Marketplace deal I always meet in a public place and I'm always armed. Most times I'm accompanied by my wife who is also armed.

Eh...wot?

These scammers are taking control of your phone and searching for information to use your identity. NEVER follow their instructions!!!!!!

A good indication you've been hacked on FB is when you get a friend request from someone you're already friends with. It's chronic, happens all the time.

When scammers ask if they can send you a verification code and you respond back they then have enough information to set up an account with your information for criminal uses.

Best advice I was told is to spell out your phone number instead of listing it numerically. Example = nine -nine-nine. Hope this helps. I never had any issues when I started doing this, before I did.

I buy and sell stuff on FBarketplace all the time, about the only reason I still have the dang Facebook anymore. I don't get many scam contacts but could do without the "Is this still available" messages with no follow up, or the people that offer half what the asking price is.

I keep my eyes out for good deals on sporting goods in the off season and resell in peak season. I've probably made more money on Marketplace than I've spent, even without factoring my truck I sold. Craigslist charges $5 for a vehicle ad nowadays, and usually leads to me getting a bunch of spam texts and calls for having my phone number on there.

I have used both for years. 90% of the time I use one or the other for selling.

I am still waiting for a bad experience.

Has anyone who has used Marketplace as a seller ever had this issue ?
I should say that I use marketplace as a buyer for 3-4 years now and no issues.

just like any thing 97% is good and not a scam

but those are a very busy 3%

don't give codes , get their phone number and tell them you will call them to discuss in person

Yeah, you have to wade through the scammers, they usually hit a person up a first, but not always (and I sell mostly cheap stuff so it doesn't matter to them). I think they often send links but because I have an old flip phone, that doesn't work. What I usually do now is ask them to suggest a public place nearby to meet. That usually ends the scammer dialogue because they don't know any because most are out of town. Most that I've dealt with so far aren't very sophisticated because they give out-of-state, usually way out of state, cell numbers. But, I'm sure that will change. We get a lot of robo "in area code" calls on the land line nowadays. There's a way the scammers can temporarily grab a local area code number and then dump it soon after you answer. The land line is now mostly an answering machine service.

My wife and I sell a fair amount of stuff through Marketplace. All of our transactions are local pick up only. We usually meet buyers in the parking lot of a local grocery store. We usually get the too eager buyers/shady characters from out of the area phishing for info. We shut them down right away; delete the conversations and block the accounts. We never give out any personal info other than a vehicle description after a meeting place has been established.

Thx for the replies.
I was thinking I was the only one for some reason.
I will sell again but I'm a little more prepared for the scammers now.
