I need a sandblaster to strip some log cabins. I know nothing about them. I've learned from google there are two types, pressure and syphon.... I've also learned that corn grit is the best for logs. What I dont know is which type of blaster I need, how big it needs to be, nozzle size/type, and how big does my air compressor need to be??

Any info would be appreciated.

im almost certain with the footage you need pressure pot... the siphon deals are for very small jobs
what size commpressor do you have..... a no 4 nozzle is 1/4 in and needs 90 cfm to maintain 100 lbs pressure

Takes more than you are probably thinking.
Do you want to own an outfit ? Dustless Blasting .com (sp)
Probably better to rent a compressor and pot. They rent a 300 lb pot here with a 185 cfm diesel compressor here pretty reasonable ..... compared to buying.
Nothing is rougher on a compressor than a sand blaster, nothing but a huge leak. Happy homeowner models won't hold up long.

My son is a contractor. He often uses dry ice. Probably very expensive with limited applications.

I used one for a few days working for a guy stripping old beams, and also used the same blaster later on a friends 100 year old log house. I don't know what size it was, but big and loud, and the media we used was made from walnut hulls. It was a big blaster I think designed for that type of media rather than sand. Worked like a dream, but it was a loud, dirty job and it wasn't no homeowner compressor running it. You may be able to get smaller ones, I really don't know anything about them, just have some experience using one.

The blaster tool will be rated in so many Cubic Feet @ a given pressure, (it will be high), ie: 10 cu ft @ 90 psi, your compressor needs to be rated at more than that. Otherwise your pressure will drop off and you'll have to wait for the compressor to refill the manifold/tank.

What are you stripping off? Bark, dirt, old chinking? Might consider another way, like angle head grinder with course wire brush.

I have a bunch of log buildings I need to strip. We used that Behr liquid rawhide stain that was so popular back in the late 80s....horrible stuff, and hard to get off. I have a masters degree in angle head grinding log buildings. Cant think of a worse job. Was looking for a better way. Watched some videos of a professional log refinishing company today and after using a sandblaster on a few projects went back to the grinders.....maybe its the best way after all but its no fun. I have about 20 cabins left to do.

Again, what are you stripping off? The grey weathered wood surface? A sandblaster will require a fairly large compressor, read, expensive.

One of these with the scale drum might work better than a "disc" type grinder.

I bought a small compressor to blast an antique coal stove I was restoring. I learned the hard way about compressors. You need something rated for continuous duty. There's that aspect of it.

Blasting media is the other. The amount of media I went through on my little project was substantial, I can't imagine what your project would entail that way. I don't envy you and your predicament.

To much air is better then not enough air if it’s a big job just rent a bigger compressor or if you lose pressure its clear the plug time over and over.

That's not a bad idea.

By far the best way to do this is water blasting if you are able to get 5 to 6 thousands psi it will take it off. Don't hit anyone with the spray

I was gonna suggest a power washer too, but I figured you wouldn't have an adequate water supply, gotta be a fairly unlimited supply like city water with good pressure to feed the pump. Is the site remote? You might need to have a high capacity pump for that, like a large trash pump.

Water wont be an issue, both locations are right beside a lake. I use 2-inch pressure pumps for our water system as well.
