Ok gang,,, need some suggestions on we’re to go for a good , solid coon cage trap. Only thing around here are the ones with the flimsy junk door that a coon will demolish. I had a good one I loaned out that unfortunately got destroyed ( which I still have no clue how they did it) that was totally bent like a pretzel. I don’t believe my bucket trap will hold up for very long

Most cages find their end under a farm tractor or a pickup most are left in the grass that grows up and they are forgotten about until it’s to late but that’s good for replete business. LOL

I make my own cages but wire is very hard to come by today, look into 1X2X36 12.5 gauge it’s the best I’ve ever found. Klubertanz in WI has the best wire I’ve found all wire is not the same be careful a lot of worthless cage wire is out there.

John I have had great luck with the duke cages that have the ring lock doors. Only complaint I have is the coon can get a good reach out between those bars. Had them grab my leg a time or two. Lol. Haven’t had one tore up yet. We’ll over 100 coons in them.

I needed one last year and bought a freedom brand. Heavy duty and I LOVE the bait door.

Go with the 1 from Little Wolf Trapping Supply of Manawa, Wi & you'll be extremely happy. The owner is very reputable, too, and happens to be on the WTA board. 1st time I tried it I used it to fill my fisher tag. It works fantastic on coon though. You can look at his fb page or buy it thru Cumberland's.

They need to pass the jumbo coon test to be worth anything here, badgers often get credit for destroying cages but they are not capable of doing much damage like a huge coon can do.

I like those doors Yoteguys, my Schroeders has the same one and I don't know if they are the cheapest but I sure do love them

Does John or someone in the family still making them- anyone know?

I like the Comstock traps the best. Heavy duty, nice spring loaded doors,1 x 1/2 inch mesh. I love the wire trigger instead of a pan. I also use the Duke traps. A good.,well functioning trap for a really good price. I have caught a lot of coons in them, and they haven't wore one out yet. Last time I ordered, Duke had free shipping on an order over $100. If you order several you can save a lot on shipping

John's nephews have bought him out. Search Austin Reis or Devin Schroeder on facebook.

Wickenkamp 302. If the door is down, there is something in it, period. Heavy duty.

I agree I have a bunch of them or Williams I’m not sure which. Used to get them at conventions. They are my favorite and about bullet proof. More money than the dukes but built much heavier. The dukes work well but we’ll see how long they last. I have some Williams that are pretty old with many catches that are in perfect condition.

I have one Duke and that was given to me. First coon I caught with it popped the welds on two of the bars on the door. Rewelded it and back in business. You do need to stake this style down or they will roll'm and get out.

Dukes are pretty good for the money spent

I have Dukes, bought about 1998 or so. They have the wire door ... not bars.
Whole lot of catches over the years, no failures.
When was that switch made ?
Thanks

I have some williams live traps that I have use a long time. Do thet still come out to the conventions? I remember they wound cone to the place with a trailer load and sell a bunch. Back then when I biudht mine they wre around $28.00 each. I used to see them advertised in FFG magazine.
