Thinking of getting one. Just wondering if anyone has one or has ridden in one. Not looking for speed just mountain trail riding and performance in snow. Is the locking differential on both front and rear?

I got a new 700 last Sept so far so good only thing I dont like there is very little storage space and very hard on the turf. I have a junk Polaris 800 which I have put thousands of dollars in over the last 11 years been in the repair shop over one year POLARIS is JUNK don"t even consider a JUNK POLAIS.

I have a 2018 700-2 deluxe that I use for trapping and utility hauling. I am not a mudder or trail rider and we do not get a lot of snow so no idea how it would handle deep snow. I made lots of mods to make it more user friendly for trapping (front custom rack, custom side rack for drowning rods, custom rear bed for hauling traps/stakes etc). The hollow plastic dump bed was not conducive to mounting anything to the sides to keep stuff organized.

And the tires that come on the deluxe have good grip but are rough on unimproved soft surfaces but would probably be fine for your use.

I bought mine new and I have followed the maintenance schedule and have had zero issues with it.

Can't speak to the Honda other than I know the name and it's synonymous with quality. I had a Yamaha Rhino. A foot of snow is about all you want to tackle without tracks. You get one high-centered in a drift and you'll be wishing you had left it home.

My 700-2 is not the deluxe. But it has full time rear positive traction....not locking. The front is lockable.

We had a Mule and would not recommend one. I have tried out many brands and models. The Honda 700 drives great with a very solid feel and engine torque to the wheels because of the shaft drive.. the other brands are belt drive and feel like rubber band drive.

Hopefully this will be helpful even though much about the 1000.

We have had great luck with Honda atvs. Wife bought a new 300 Fourtrax in the 90s and it has seems nearly constant use - still looks and operates great. Same quality with a couple others that we have sold. Keep them inside is key.

The Pioneer 1000 has a larger body to go with the larger engine. We wanted to max out everything so we ordered a 1000 Special Edition. It has many upgrades. We are pleased with it. In this photo there is approximately 12” of snow, this area was a bit blown away. It got around fine with the power. We got another 6” of snow and that made getting around difficult. If you may use tracks, get the 1000.

The differential lock system is what they call Intelligent 4wd that can lock all 4 on the 1000.

Best wishes.[Linked Image]

When mine needs fuel, I put more in it. Least of my worries with a side by side is fuel economy. Do not have a clue about mileage and do not care.

You will not regret getting one I have rode the mess out of my 2018 and nothing has broken or went wrong the only downside is storage but there’s plenty of things you can do to fix that

I think my 700 is around 15 to 18 mpg.

You asked about fuel economy. Honestly we have not used it enough yet to know about fuel mileage. Plus the mileage when new will likely improve after break in. However, with the 1000 engine the power is so great that it is easy to hit it when on the road. At 55mph it still had a lot left- no idea of top speed!

The Mule was 8 years old when we bought it from brother in law. We had our Mule for about 12 years. So it was 20 years old when we sold it. The buyer needed to put a clutch in it. It was a diesel that got great mileage. But, top speed was 24mph. On my trapline loop of 18 miles both on and off road it used 2 gallons of fuel. I don’t expect that mpg from the Honda.

In the Honda, I use only what is locally called recreational fuel - which contains no ethanol. Ethanol is hard on many engine and fuel components. Plus it attracts moisture. I also use SeaFoam fuel additive which is a gasoline stabilizer and keeps the engine running clean.

I do not at all like the bed. It is smaller than the bed on the old Mule. Plus, there appears to be no way to bolt on any type of racks or forks to carry guns or tools. I want to add a rack to carry a canoe on top. Old town 16’ that only weighs 50 pounds. I use a large strong storage box in the bed for dry clean storage box.

The Pioneer still needs side mirrors, a gun rack, a rear winch, and a rear bumper, And a back window to prevent sucking in dust, leaves, and snow. I would really like to have a front rack and a custom bed like Quiet but deadly built for his.

Best wishes.

Thanks for all the responses and I value your opinions. I have driven the 1000 pioneer and with chains it was great in the snow up to 12" depths. I don't need a 1000 but the 700 seemed like the right size for us. I love Honda quality as we have two 2001 350 ranchers and love them ,only thing we have done is brakes, oil change and rebuilt carbs after 15 years and new tires. I had read that the earlier models had problems with power loss and shifting. my brother has the 500 pioneer and it goes everywhere and no problems but no dump bed and not much room in the seating.

They sure have increased in price since I bought mine in 2018. Looks like $5000.00, ouch!

I found a 2021 model. The people bought it and never used it. They drove it 1 mile in their pasture and then put in the garage. Price is $14,000 with windshield and roof 700-2 deluxe. Still has all the stickers from the dealership on it. Retired couple moved to VT bought a gentlemans farm and a really seem to be afraid of the machine after they had it delivered to their farm.

Make sure you physically see it before any money changes hands.

I looked at it yesterday and drove it and it’s just as advertised and pictures are of this unit. I started and drove beautiful. Wrote up a agreement and put a deposit down. Going back to pick it up next Saturday. Thanks
