Here is another thought. I propose that Christians are almost atheists. Don't nail me on the exact numbers here, as I am probably missing some, but let's just say with the plethora of different religions out there, there are say, 1500 gods that I don't believe in. A Cristian does not believe in 1499 of them either, and probably for similar reasons that I don't. So in essence ... well nearly there ...right ??

Well, not exactly. Scholars estimate there are 100,000 idolized gods, near abouts, and followers of Jesus know only one.... only one....
rose from the dead after being dead for so long that it was impossible to do it.

So when and if another god were to rise from the ultimate god thinning out process. which is death, then the situation changes.

Convinced is a good descriptor. I like the way you use that thesis in other religions.
You may try to use it for Christians but I'd ask you to defend that statement and show me one person who had to be convinced to be a follower of Christ.
I'd say the entire world is opposed to the real truth and no one is convinced to faith.

In most cases I feel it is normal for an most atheists to automatically default to the left. You are different from most after seeing many of your posts because you show positive moral common sense. That sets you apart from most of the others, IMHO. Honestly, I was surprised to hear you are an atheist.

I was brought up a evangelic reformist in Germany. Going to church and all that ....afternoon bible lesson twice a week. The church even had a ping pong table up in the attic as I remember. Kids soak stuff up like little sponges. You get told what is right and what is wrong etc. I guess that is similar accrues the globe. With me it just did not stick when I got older and started to want some sort of proof and logic behind it all. So I ended up in the reality that does not have fairies, santa and gods. Things look ok to me from where i am standing.

Te get back to the original post. For some folks, the belief in god is all they have so one should not take that away from them. For me personally its a mute point as god does not exist so you cant get rid of something that is not there in the first place.

Christians don't have 1500 Gods, Christians may have 1500 interpretations of God and with theology, tenets, creeds, oaths, rituals and sacraments they are able to create and find one of those 1500 or so that fits them or suits them. For those that believe in the One God of all the Earth, then God is an umbrella for all the non Christian beliefs and faiths as well. We have for several thousands of years had a very difficult time even accepting that, let alone live our lives in accordance to that. Religions world wide have been granted many privileges and benefits to function within societies and nations. Many very good things have come from those benefits and as all things man manages some not so charitable actions as well. As I have stated in the past I am just so grateful that God was not a theologian.
