I've been doing some research on prices of furs through the years. It seems like the late 70's where a great time to be a trapper. Is that when fur coats were in style? The only constant I have found is that fur prices have fluctuated regularly over the years. I know this question has been asked before on here but I thought it might be worth asking again with our current predicaments. Russia and China, our largest buyers of fur potentially going through some long lasting major economic issues. Via war and the virus. As well as a dimming chance that fur garments will ever hold a widespread popularity again. Along with countless other factors. Realistically, will we ever see great fur prices again? Or will the downhill trend continue?

I think it will take a lot of conditions coming around to make that happen. Back in the 70's and early 80's America and Canada still consumed fur but the biggest consumers were the western Europeans. Now none of these three are big fur consumers and the mini fur booms of 10 -15 years ago which were driven by Chinese, Korean and Russian consumers appears to have largely dried up for a myriad of reasons. My crystal ball says don't hold your breath.

Fashion is fickle, let some hollywierd hottie wear a fur garment things may change a little, till some other hollywierd bunny huger takes offense. JMO.

I知 no marketing expert, but I think it would help a lot if we trappers, hunters, outdoorsmen in general made fur a part of our daily apparel. Send your kids to school with fur hats and mittens. Send your daughter to prom in a fur cape/stole/cuffs, etc. wear a nice fur vest to the grocery store. Make a fur coat your daily winter wear when you go out and about. I think it痴 a marketing issue more than anything. Honestly, how many of us wear a fur article in the public eye every day? I壇 bet not many, I知 as guilty as the rest.
Maybe we could use these low prices as a chance to get some furs tanned and have things made, and give them as gifts to anyone we know who would wear them in public. Start a trend. But it would take a lot of us doing the part to make any sort of difference. And I知 not talking about trapper style hats with faces and tails, I知 talking about garments you壇 expect a well dressed, clean cut couple to wear to dinner at a nice restaurant. It should be tasteful, elegant, and make a statement without being gaudy.
I may be wrong, but its a better option than whining about the rice of fur on the internet. I think I値l give it a shot.

I consider a great fur market when there is good demand and prices for all species. I doubt that we ever see that again. We値l see rises in individual species. Rats, otter, cats, etc., but a hot market for all species is over I知 afraid. I agree. Haven't seen a good overall market since the boom. Not likely to either. I won't even mention inflation adjusted prices. I bet people would drool over $30 coon. The price from 1979. But it wouldn't be even close to the same price in 2022.

It wont be too long now that the fur commodity will be extremely valuable to people trying to keep warm.People who never had to depend on fur for warmth in their whole lives.Even moreso than it is already that way for people who currently live in cold climates and spend a lot of time outdoors.
