Anything good can get or eat to cut appetite ? With bum knee, not go make it a year an not good heart if don't loose weight or keep off , since winter or first year, put weight back on get fat, hard on bad knee an foot pain on one leg
Cut out all sugars and grains from your diet. Eat only leafy greens and meat, no fruit. Drink only water. Work out for an hour and a half per week. And no processed foods.
Cut your carbs they hold water and make you fat. Give you high blood pressure and diabetes. Stop eating bread, pasta, rice and potatoes, and all grains and including sugar, fruit ,juice, pop and beer. If you have a sweet tooth use Erythritol taste just like sugar but not a carb.
Dont eat vegetable oil either it gives you joint pain, swollen joints, arthritis like symptoms and its in everything too, even peanut butter. Get real peanut butter if you like it ,or almond butter is better. No seed oils. Use butter, animal fat, lard, olive oil, coconut instead.
Most packaged foods are not good for you. You have to eat real food, not read labels. That means cooking.
Do eat. meat ,fish, cheese, seafood, bacon, eggs, ham, all you want, salmon, tuna, sardines, berries, all good for you, veggies too, eat all you want dont starve. Eat until your full then stop eating. No snacking. skip one meal a day if you can like breakfast so you fast at least 14 hrs a day mostly while you sleep.
Pay no attention to calories that never worked, just watch your carb intake and keep it as low as you can, salt your food, eat all the good fat you want, and you will see positive results in a month.
Exercise if you can but you will still see good results without it if you stick to the low carb diet. Research Keto Diet on youtube
If you are having prostate problems, give up dairy. or go with grass fed, or you can have goat or sheep cheese/butter/milk.
It will help your attitude as well, most older guys becoming insulin resistant are in a bad mood, foggy brain, and have headaches all the time, all from their poor diet.
you eat meat and vegetable and no potatoes are not a vegetable , be careful of starchy vegetables like peas
cut the bread or most of it 2 slices a day if you cut everything else out for bread
cut potatoes , pasta , rice , sugar , soda , candy , chips , pretzels
how much pop do you drink , make it zero that alone is a big thing if your drinking one or more a day
beer , wine , mixed drinks all heavy in carbs beer is probably the least carb a beer is basically one slice of bread so if you eat 0 slices of bread you can have 1 beer
water , coffee with no sweetener , and tea with no sweetener are your new beverages
most people don't need to watch milk because they don't drink enough of it , but it was something I had to cut way back on , I would have a quart with a meal each 8 ounces of whole milk is 12 carbs my quart of milk was costing me 48 carbs and to be honest some times I had 2 quarts at a meal.
can't say you won't be hungry you probably need to be a little hungry for a few days to a week to shrink your stomach
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
Obviously, lots of opinions listed so far. So, I'll throw mine in too. First, discuss your diet with your doctor and maybe even a registered diatician, if that is an option, they can be very helpful.
Second, the law of thermodynamics is a real thing. If you burn more calories than you consume. You will see a body weight decrease, in time.
Be careful though, body weight loss and body fat loss are NOT the same thing. You want to lose body fat, but weight loss can also mean losing lean muscle mass, which is not, usually, the intended goal.
Most "diets" are going to be a temporary fix Determine if your goal is to lose weight or change the way you eat. Very different goals and ideas contained therein.
In general, good, high quality, lean proteins, vegetables, and fruits are a good start. Limiting simple carbs, basically empty calories, like white sugar is sound advice. If you chose to consume carbohydrates (just as with proteins and fats) moderation is the key, but chose complex carbohydrates such as old fashioned oatmeal, yams, and brown rice, etc. Limit the sodium consumption to the recomended daily intake and adjust if necessary. Last but not least, drink plenty of water and shoot for walkling 7,500-10,000 steps (3-4 miles) per day.
That'll get you started, AFTER you decide to permanently change your lifestyle choices and what you consume on a daily basis with an eye towards longevity. Once that mindset changes, it makes it a whole lot easier to pursue the things I listed above.

"My feeling is this, give him plenty of time, plenty of birds, and a little direction, and he'll hunt his heart out for me. That's all I ask."
Stop eating sugars like pop, candy and snacks your life will change.
That's what I'm working on was doing good but got a bit of track. I do best when I stop one thing at a time then when I suddenly stop everything. I've changed my snacking to trail mix type mixed seeds, nuts, dried fruit I've been odering from Nutstop sticking to the lower sugar products. Down about 15lbs.
Self-control. Discipline. Exercise it like a muscle. Build it up. Take cold showers. Fast for 24 hours. Skip meals occasionally. Exercise your body to strengthen your mind. Take mental control of your physical desires. Embrace discomfort and privation. Don't let your body be a master over you. Beat it into submission and make it become your servant.
And...
Avoid sugar like the plague!
