I see them listed as a Special Ops Force. Are they part of the Green Beret or Rangers or are they a completely separate organization. Curious to their main function.
they would say that they are the group that goes in and gets the seals, rangers or other special forces. I think they are an airborne group, (choppers) who are trained to get people and things where they need to be in the stealth of the night.
The night stalkers are basically a unit of highly skilled operation that specialize in night time helicopter ops. From the one or two I've spoken to most of their stuff revolves around night ops insert and pick up of high teir units.they can be used by whoever needs them really
The 160th SOAR are known as the Night Stalkers. They have their own fenced off compound on Ft. Campbell. You have to be tested and pass their course to get into the unit. They are made up of a lot of helicopter air assets and all of the support personnel that go with them. They also do a lot of recon work on the ground (mostly infantry soldiers). They perform a lot of DZ/PZ and LZ ops. They are are well respected and can be counted on to put you in the right place at the right time.
Before reading the postings I thought they were helo pilots, seems I remember seeing a tv doc about them. I remember in my day a lot of the guys that got us into and out of trouble were Warrent Officers, a lot of them African Americans, they darn strait weren't tail between there leg anythings. As a grunt they were as scary as a First Sargent and you darn well respected them. If that's a Night Stalker, great!!! We need more of'em. JMO. Casexx

Any time my unit needed to be on or under a bird, it was them we had fly us. They all had something wrong with them. They were just crazy to an extreme. They were the ones who we were in when we had the helicopter crash. I have mixed feelings about them.
