Nice bird! Congratulations. Did you call him in in the snow? Call him Off of the roost? I love a good turkey hunting story

Here is the story:
I hunt a 1 acre food plot on my land. There is a stand of large red pines on one side where they roost. Swamp on 2 sides and grassy field behind me.

Yesterday a nice Tom with 9 hens entered the plot from the swamp. Unfortunately they were at the opposite end of the plot from me. They strutted and hung around for over an hour but I could not coax them into moving within range.

Today this Tom flew in from the pines alone. He came toward the decoys but hung up about 30 yards out. I thought I made a good shot but I broke a wing and he ran into the tag alder swamp. I tracked him in the snow for probably 100 yards until I saw him and got a second shot which ended it. It was like trailing a deer. Without snow I doubt I would have retrieved this bird.

After I got him I texted my neighbor who was also hunting. I told him what happened and that I would send a picture after I got my truck and picked up all my stuff. I'm 70 and didn't want to lug my gun, blind, decoys and bird through the snow. I left the bird on the trail and drove into the plot figuring I would pick up the bird on my way out. While I was getting my stuff my neighbor snuck in and took the bird and hid in the woods. I drove out and the bird was gone. I nearly stroked out until I saw my buddies footprints in the snow. LOL Payback will be sweet.

Good times to come! Now you'll have to tell us the conclusion after it happens!

You must be a ways up north to have that much snow left.

That’s a great story, thanks for sharing. I could only imagine coming back and finding my turkey gone, haha
I bet your blood pressure did go way up for a minute there.

Nothing this morning but I have a few more days to get one.
But talk about touchy birds. I spotted a big tom about 800 yards out In this open field I stopped the truck to glass It. Soon as I stopped he took off on a dead run. And this Is only the first day of the season.
