Chop saw or miter saw? I think you asked about a chop saw but the advice so far is for miter saws. The main question was about A chop saw that can do miter cuts. Or a miter saw thats made for cutting metal I guess . And I asked as a secondary question if I'm going to be buying a used miter saw for wood what are some things I need to look at before buying it.

I have the smaller version, great little saw. As far as a used miter saw, you want to check that blade is perpendicular to bed, Arbor is in good shape, little to no flex when you bear down at full extension and check that the 0degree detent is functioning and accurate. All other angles can be manually set. If the inserts or auxiliary fence are damaged they can easily be replaced
Just happy to be here.

I got a cheap one from a tool store I bet 20 years ago, name tag is wore off. It's cut alot of stuff over the years.
At work we use them every day, they buy DeWalt. If I need a new one it will be a DeWalt.
Let me sugar coat this

Chop saw or miter saw? I think you asked about a chop saw but the advice so far is for miter saws. The main question was about A chop saw that can do miter cuts. Or a miter saw thats made for cutting metal I guess . And I asked as a secondary question if I'm going to be buying a used miter saw for wood what are some things I need to look at before buying it. if you buy used , you need to make sure it cuts square , does it cut the angles correctly , are all the guards and parts present and in good order, will it turn to 45 then return to 0 and be square does the brake work most saws now slow down quickly with an electric brake that comes on when the trigger is released older saws and some that are damaged the blade free spins for several seconds after letting off the trigger. expect replacing the blade how big of work will you need to cut there are 10 and 12 inch miter saws there are also sliding saws that let you cut larger pieces is it metal or wood you will be cutting ? if you buy a rigid , register it the day you get it , you get like 30 days but as your taking it out of the box register it , guess who forgot to register it , I have broken parts on 2 rigid tools and those are the only 2 I didn't register. most saws have a clamp option , you can grab a piece of scrap and clamp it down to make the measurement stop so you can cut a bunch of the same size piece the warning with those it make sure to blow the saw dust away every few or it ca build up and effect your measurement

If your wanting one for metal , focus on the evolution , Fein sluggers, are good ,as well as the cheaper dewalts and Wen , pay close attention to the saws RPM range if your using carbide for metal, the good ones have a lower RPM s for the saw blade , some saw manufactures are trying to sell regular 3600 rpm saws as cold cut saws ,the blade cuts for a while at that rpm but not long, You can then build your own dedicated table and stop system however you want it.
