Anybody have experience with GunSkins or a similar gun wrap? I've got a new shotgun on the way but settled for a black synthetic stock because it was $150 cheaper and in stock. But I would like to camo it up a bit. I have hydro dipped some stocks with spray paint, but would like something a bit more professional looking. GunSkins sells their shotgun kit for about $65, and I cam get $10 off by buying a gift certificate first.

Wondering if anyone has used their kits or something similar. How did it hold up? I don't really hunt sever conditions and I'm not real hard on gear. Seems easy enough to install.

I used the Mossy Oak graphics for my turkey gun. Quite impressed actually. Here’s a pic...ignore the turkey.

Is that a GunSkins, or is it something else? Looks like it turned out pretty well, how has it held up?

Used something like this for one hunting trip back in the late 80s. I am not hard on guns. Have some that are 40 years old and don’t look bad.

Mine and my sons have held up quite well actually. And I’m hard on my turkey gun. It’s been on about 4 years now and still looks great. The best thing is it supposedly comes off fairly easy if you want to remove it and restore the gun back to it’s original finish.

Thanks Wanna Be, looks to be the same sort of idea, but half the price! Glad to hear it has held up for ya.

Any concern over moisture getting trapped behind it and damaging the barrel or receiver with rust?

I’ll be honest I don’t think it’s possible without the skin coming loose. And that 20ga is wood underneath too and I’ve noticed no swelling. That gun has been in downpours and just taken apart and cleaned like any other. About the only way to know for sure would be to take it off. If I ever decide to I’ll let you know, but don’t hold your breath, lol.

For $30 plus shipping for each wrap, I think it's worth a shot. I actually had a camo version of the A300 saved on Gunbroker, but someone else bought it before I could pull the trigger. But it still would've been $100 more than what I paid for the black model.

I've watched the installation videos for both GunSkins and the Mossy Oak version and they must be pretty much the same material, since the installation videos were nearly identical. Interesting that the guy in the Mossy Oak video also put a small piece on the bolt of his semi-auto. I may have to try that as well, though the bolt of the A300 is black, so not nearly as important as it would be with a chrome bolt like I had on my 870.

They are ok. I wouldn't use one again though, the vinyl is shinier than I would like, I didn't like the seam joins - even if you can't see them you can feel them.
I left mine on for maybe 8 months and when I pulled it off it tore in places leaving an ultra thin second layer, it lifted patches of the clear coat/stain off the stock and left sticky patches all over everything, it was horrible.
The packaging promised it could be removed without leaving sticky residue

Rhino1, was that the GunSkins brand wrap you used? Or another brand?

Yeah it was the gunskins brand, I also used the mossy oak kit to camo my Bear recurve bow and it also left a few sticky patches but it wasn't on very long at all

I'm thinking about putting one of these (gun skins or the mossy oak graphics) on a rifle. Any updates or new experiences? I'm particularly curious as to how these work on the checkering.

my son started playing with Rustoleum ultra flat camo paint

the only decision your really making is , that your gun will never not be painted

he did 2 guns I am playing with some spare stocks I have to get the pattern I like , his did come out really nice

scuba1 did a nice post a while back about his painted guns

Ours are still on our guns and holding up just fine too. And the guns are still killing turkeys, lol. They will be taking a trip to the NW US in a couple of weeks and I expect they’ll look the same when they get back. If you’re wanting to camo a cheaper gun I’d use it. If you have a nice gun I’d probably send it off to get dipped. As stated before, I’m tough on my turkey gun.

Thanks Wanna Be, and with it going on four years now since your original post it sounds like it's durable.

I have a rifle with a plastic stock that I would like to put this on. I think the vinyl skins would go on quicker and look better than a paint job. Did your stock have any checkering? Do you just warm it up and get it into the checkering the best you can with a plastic spatula?

It has a little checkering on the pump and yeah heat it up with a blow dryer and it conforms and sticks well.
I keep saying I’m going to get a nice semiauto 20ga set up for turkeys but I have this little Youth 870 set up too good to give it up, lol. I also keep saying I’m gonna get it dipped when this wrap wears off…that ain’t happening either apparently.

I have the Mossy oak version of it was well. Its has worked well so far. Its not bad to put on, but will take ya a couple hours. I have it on an affinity A3, I even done the bolt. It still there after several shots. I have the same pattern as Wanna Be has on his. Just clean it good and use a good hair dryer.
