Was out of town last week but I noticed since I got home the wrens are checking out the bird houses and singing their song!

I witnessed our first wren fledglings a few days ago leave the nest. I thought they were early this spring. I found the nest and eggs a couple weeks ago when I went to get our mower ready to mow. We have another on eggs close to the house.

I used to love wrens and was always happy to see them occupy some of the bluebird houses on our property.

But that all changed a few years ago, when we put a web cam inside of a bluebird box near the house a few
years ago, so we could watch the bluebirds and tree swallows do their thing, raise a brood, etc. It was very
educational to say the least.

The wrens are nasty buggers. They will seize every opportunity to raid a bluebird nest, destroy the eggs and
rip the nest apart. I have watched it with my own eyes, every season, time after time. As soon as both the
male and female bluebirds have left to get something to eat, a wren will swoop in, land on the box, watch to
make sure the coast is clear, jump inside, peck holes in the eggs and start tossing them out the front. They
dont eat them, they just destroy them.

Last year, suspecting that it might be a territorial / box spacing issue, we removed all boxes except for the one
with the camera. Same thing happened.

I have lost all appreciation for wrens.
