Lovely fur colour, 160user.
Why ? Did he roll in something ? Everyone I have ever been around has stunk to high heaven. A foul, obnoxious odor. Same. Stinkers.

U S Fish and Wildlife Service said it was 100% wolf. hence the quotation marks in the statement in the original post.
Don't shoot the messenger.
Charlie Well that explains a lot !! Do you believe that they have an agenda that requires them to lie, or are you doubtful of the testing accuracy? Not trying to argue, just interested in why folks don’t believe the results. Thank you.

Both. As I mentioned before I believe there has been enough genomic testing done on wolves, coyotes, dogs, and hybrids that indicates interbreeding among all of them but not necessarily between wolves and coyotes. But all other combinations yes. So to say that anything is 100% will be met with skepticism from me.
I also believe USF&WS does have an agenda. How many times have they been caught planting "evidence" like fake hair samples from critters that don't exist and illegally disbursing Pittman-Robertson funds to anti-trapping groups. More and more we see these guys hiring anti-consumptive use biologists with a definite anti-trap & hunt world view.
I don't believe they are "required" to lie I just think it comes naturally from their ideological views.
It comes naturally just like Lois Lerner at the IRS
Thanks for the reply.

Back when coyotes first started showing up regularly here in Ohio, the official state governmental organization examined and “scientifically” tested a couple then determined they were not coyotes. They were declared coydogs and therefore not in need of governmental supervision. Yeah right. Now many federal officials claim them to be something else. The answer seems to be slanted to suit the purpose of the answerer’s agenda.
Remember President Reagan’s comment about the most feared words? “I am from the government and here to help you.”
In my limited opinion, at first glance and after more consideration, that critter looks like it has quite a bit of dog mixed in, not like a pure wolf. I agree with the experts here. On the other hand, I have seen photos of other wolves that had this head shape - with a prominent forehead, that were also caught in the Great Lakes region.
From another perspective, I have worked with top quality hunting dogs all of my adult life. Labs and hounds. Dogs are said to have more brain capacity than wolves, therefore having a forehead. And unfortunately I have seen plenty of dogs without much of a forehead for brain capacity. (Many people too.) Dogs are able to live with man and not bite the hand that feeds them, whereas wolves would bite the hand and eat the person feeding them.

Just asking, if the analysis is slanted why would they do it? I have seen my share of wolves, seen not brought to hand like some of you Alaskan/Canadian guys. The color is certainly a mix I’ve never seen and the face looks to have some “sled dog” in it. The paws don’t seem quite as prominent as what I see here but that could be picture angles of course. Just my thoughts, nothing judged from me. I question is the best I can come up with.

Looks like some of the coydog mixes from down south to me but I am no expert.
A bit off topic but White can you elaborate more on the Pittman/Robertson funds being given to anti group debacle? This happened..or came to light ..back in the late 1990's. Alaska congressman Don Young was holding hearings on it and was pretty fired up. There was an article in Outdoor Life about it but that article is no longer available. I did, however, find a capture of it on another site. Here is the link to that site and the reprint starts in the second posting down the page. https://forums.off-road.com/threads/special-report-misplaced-trust.25483/
