I stumbled on my cities dangerous weapons list today. Along with the usual they include; - BB guns
- slingshots
- bow and arrows
- blowguns
- CO2 or gas powered anything.
As I think about it, there is no mention of knives, spears, clubs, or about a dozen other things I can think of. Oh, well, Here's a pic of one of my favorites. I included the Wrist Rocket ® mod, to show one of many typical "braids" of the bands. The type, number and sequence of singles, doubles, or triples. can be matched to pull length, power and velocity.

Grew up with them and shot MANY critters. Lots of birds on the fly. Good memories.

Dennis the Menace was my role model. At least until the Liberals of the day disarmed him.

My first sling shots were made with bands cut from inner tubes. Saw an ad on TV for wrist rockets and about had a siezure. I had to have one. Scraped together the money and got a ride to Salida with grandad who needed a car part or something. Things were wonderful.

I love a good slingshot. I walked around with one everywhere I went until I was old enough to carry a gun. Killed me first rabbit with one. Good times for sure

Mostly rocks but then I discovered the local rifle range dirt backstop. Boy did that change things!

I got 3 different wrist rockets 2 are folding models. Right now none have bands on them. Newer Replacement bands sure seem to be crap and not last long. I was keeping the folders under seat in my truck and car. So that may contribute to band rot?

Rocks were used almost exclusively. Steelies, aka ball bearings and marbles were generally considered too valuable. I sure wish I had been smart enough to build an ammo trap for a backstop back then.
Today it is buckshot for serious shooting, tinfoil wadded up into 30-50 caliber balls for practice, or the young ones.
Mac, you are right about the poor quality replacement bands. There are other options, though. Surgical straps and tubing are available in various strengths, These can be found on a couple internet sites, or Amazon once you know what to look for. Then, there is the office rubberband route. I use a lot of these, as you can tell by the photos. The trick to these is that they need to be tumbled in baby powder for longevity. I sure do miss the old gum rubber inner tubes.

T-Rex I shot a lot of different sizes steel bearings over the years. My brother used to work in big machine shop. They had to change bearings on the machines fairly often but to maintain tolerance. Anyway he bring me bears and I'd knock them out of retainer. I also started pouring my round jig head mold without hooks. Little clip with side cutter and cleaning got nice variety lead balls. 1/4 oz about size 00 buck shot if you need few home defense loads lol.
