I know all you southern guys and gals have been in swarm season for a over a month. But here in southern Illinois the bees have just gotten serious about swarming the last week or so. My brother has caught 3 so far, but one was out of one of his hives. I have 1 trap up no catch yet, but there were a few bees checking it out this afternoon. So maybe by the weekend one will move in.
My brother took 6 hives into winter, 4 survived and are busting at the seams and need split. So with 3 swarms, and at least 3 splits needing done this week the local bee supply folks love him right now.

Picked up one this week. Guy calls and they're twenty foot up. I'm hesitant to even go but I agree to go look. Turns out the guy is a tree cutter with his own bucket truck. He put me right on them to knock into a bucket. Then they behaved themselves and waltzed right in when I got to the ground.
Probably be another forty years before I get one that easy again.
I have a guy that is supposed to bring some hive over to set on my land. He will trade honey for land rent. I figure at will be close enough to having bees for me.

I had four hives on our land for 3 years that a buddy had out , last year one of the neighbor farmers sprayed something that wasn’t bee friendly and killed all of them . He got the EPA involved all but one of the farmers said they used bee friendly chemicals and the one wouldn’t say what he used .
I’ve caught 8 swarms already this year. I pulled my traps. I’ve got more bees than I need or can take care of.
I'm building how far are you from Evansville? If around an hour and you get more than you want I will gladly come get a few. I have several hives that need to be filled.
I would love to have bees, but we have so many bears that I think it would be a loosing proposition. All the beekeepers around me lost most of their hives to bears last summer.

I have a couple of queens bought, will pick them up tomorrow and put them in nucs. It wasn't a good winter. Started with 7 hives , just saved two. Weather is just starting to warm up, so I will put my swarm boxes out soon. old243
I picked up a swarm this morning at my brothers place up in the woods. First time I ever saw a swarm right on the ground. It was raining and only about 49 F and they sure weren't moving much.
Well one of my brothers hives swarmed yesterday. He didnt see the swarm till 7:30 in the rain. Needless to say they were not in a very good mood. Started putting them in a nuc box but this swarm had to be over 6lbs of bees, ended up having to grab a 10 frame box and quickly transfer them over. One of the little lady let me have it on the back of the ear and I was a good distance away.
