Might have been the only post you had , but if I was putting a loft in it the poles would have gone all the way to the top edge of the roof. But your loft might only be 5 ft off the ground?
Hope you got those post in cement and treat them for termites . If not and it's very wet there 10-12 years max before you have issues. But lot of work so far and more to come. Keep the updates rolling in... jbyrd My center poles are 19 ft my loft floor will be 8 ft., you'll and I both will be in the ground way before that barn comes down. What do they feed you Boyz in KY. Poles not post. It would be a very hungry termite to eat cedar. If you put cedar poles in concrete they'll rot. Thanks for your help,

Man, I thought my local lumberyard had rough wood, lol! What type of wood, any treatment for below ground/ ground contact?
DaveP We've got barns around here that were built in the early 1900s that the cedar poles are still solid, this cedar last along while, I built a barn in 2006 and the poles look like they did when I put them in the ground, my granddad bought a farm in 1953 he said it was an old barn when he bought it and the poles are still very solid. Main thing is to not use cement.
