There I was yesterday at 10:32AM laying in bed, sleeping. BAM!! LOOK LOOK LOOK!!! Cell phone screen light shining in my face, brighter than the foggy sun shining through the clouds, through my window, through my eyelids. “There’s Quail for sale”!! That’s my wife not caring I haven’t even smelled the coffee yet! “We need to get them!” She said. All I heard was Quail. $35. I say offer $25 ZZZ zzz ZZZ zzz. “They want to know what time we can pick them up”? At this point I don’t want to be in any hurry doing anything. “7PM”. So we have our first Quail now. Been thinking about getting some ever since that Quail thread during the winter. The pics are brutal. I’ll get better ones in the next day or two. Got 3 eggs today!! And one is BLUE!!!!!! WHY AM I YELLING!?!? Lol just so excited!!

Gonna be covered up in eggs before long. We just had 10 hatch out a couple weeks back. 4 to 6 weeks and they will be laying up a storm. Down side is you have to incubate them. They are an eating machine as you will soon find out.

Kayleigh good luck on the transfer after the hatch. We hatched a little over 100 ONCE. As my luck would have it, my wife had to go back to New York right before the hatch. Every time i reached into the incubator to grab on 3 would get past me. I was picking up baby quail for a week as they would come out of hiding. Our dog at the time would catch any escaped birds and bring them back alive. Some didn't survive the test though.

Any luck at all with releasing quail into the farmstead? If you let them out, will they come back to roost at night?
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Gary they have been domesticated so far they will not build or set a nest of eggs. Every predator will hunt them as they can't fly well. Those that escape will hang around the cage and can usually catch them with a dip net if you beat the other predators to them.

Correct, coturnix quail are only good for meat/eggs, and some dog training. For training I will only use 8-12 week old males, as they get older the flight character diminish. There is also a problem with them holding to tight leading training issues. I mentioned in a previous thread about Tibetan/Austrian Fawn crosses that have a smaller body with longer wingspan that work.

I love my quail. They're pretty neat little birds, but be warned, they are addictive. I have a ridiculous need to hatch every egg I get. I have over 600 eggs in the incubator now. What was I thinking? Holy moly!! That’s going to be a lot of chicks! Goals!!

Great work, Jurassic Park. Thanks man! If you can, try to feed with high protein feed. Minimum I give mine is 24%, also if you find yourself with extra eggs hard boil and toss in a blender shells and all. Mix in with your feed, it really boosts the protein levels Cool, I’ll try to remember that! I’m not sure what % the protein is on the bag of food we’re feeding them right now. The guy we bought them from gave us his left over feed in an unmarked bag.
